Best Vermillion Build in Hyper Light Breaker

Vermillion is the starting character in Hyper Light Breaker, and he offers a relatively balanced playstyle by default. He’s more than enough to beat the game several times over, but for players who are just getting used to how things work, beating the Abyss King with Vermillion is going to be difficult.

Like other roleplaying games, here, you can equip gear that can make your life in the Overgrowth much easier. If you’re looking for the best Vermillion in Hyper Light Breaker, here’s one setup that’s proven to be quite successful so far.

One of the most important things you can do to get better at Hyper Light Breaker is regularly Extract and recover.

Hyper Light Breaker Vermillion Build

A bare Vermillion Loadout in Hyper Light Breaker

This build takes advantage of the Gunslinger SyCom’s offensive stats and critical hit passive to give Vermillion an extra edge to his combat power. This won’t necessarily be a Rail-only build — players can still get a lot of mileage out of melee weapons thanks to Hyper Light Breaker’s progression system, which allows for individual stat upgrades for SyComs.

Due to the random nature of the game, not everyone will be able to get the same gear. As such, we’ve decided to base our recommendations on specific traits found on equipment (including some examples). This way, players will be able to get an idea of synergies they should look for.

Hyper Light Breaker Vermillion Gunslinger Build

Blade

These dual daggers attack quickly, and they come with a Blade Special that increases your crit rate for a short duration.

Rail

Fast-firing Compact Rails like these can take advantage of high crit stats more often.

Holobytes

  • Flash Accelerator
  • Critical Ring

Flash Accelerator increases your crit rate after using a Flashstep, while Critical Ring lets you heal with every critical hit.

AMP

Personal preference.

Much of your damage will come from critical hits, so pick any AMP that works best for you.

Armor

Personal preference.

Armor will improve your survivability at the cost of mobility. Pick whichever you fancy. Consider using Light Armor with Glow Soles, a perk that lets you walk faster while aiming.

Vendors regularly refresh their inventories, so don’t forget to check their stock every now and then.

Flash Accelerator drop in Hyper Light Breaker

The main idea of this build is to stack as much critical hit chance on Vermillion as possible in order to trigger Gunslinger’s passive effect, which lets players land a guaranteed critical Rail hit every time they hit a critical Rail hit beforehand. It effectively doubles Vermillion’s crit frequency and increasing the value of items that boost critical hit damage.

While any melee weapon will work well with this build, we recommend ones that apply status effects so you can tack additional damage to enemies while staying far away. Melee combat is very risky, so it’s a good idea to minimize it as much as possible.

As for your choice of Rails, it depends on what you want to achieve. If you want to heal more in Hyper Light Breaker, find a Critical Ring Holobyte. This heals you every time you critically hit, and since you’ll always be hitting at least two consecutive critical hits when shooting things, you’ll heal yourself for a lot more than other characters.

Sycom Upgrades

You can upgrade your SyCom at the Cursed Outpost by opening your inventory and selecting the Upgrade option. You’ll need Cores to upgrade your stats — these can be found by opening Chests in the Overgrowth.

In the beginning, it’s best to upgrade the Strike stat first. This will improve your melee damage. While it seems counter-intuitive, it’s actually a worthwhile investment since you won’t always be bringing a Rail with you during your very early runs (until you get an unbreakable Soldier’s Sidearm). Once you’ve stockpiled enough gear or unlocked the Rail vendor at base, start upgrading Crit Chance. Follow this with Crit DMG and Blast upgrades.
