Summary
- The Brooklyn Nets had a short-lived super team that could be a lot of fun to rebuild.
- The Chicago Bulls offer iconic history and potential for a quick rebuild.
- The San Antonio Spurs feature Wembanyama and Popovich, making for a fun and talented roster.
A rebuild can make for a difficult time for NBA fans and NBA 2K25 players. Watching a team accept their mediocrity and essentially start making a team completely from scratch is not a fun time for the audience. However, it is a necessary process for many teams if they want to find success in the future. It happens to every team, and even those who are seeing success now will see a rebuild coming in the future when their stars eventually move on or retire. It is an inevitable part of every franchise, and this will continue in this year’s entry to the popular game series.

However, rebuilding can also be an incredibly rewarding experience. Ask any Denver Nuggets fan, and they will say how great it was to watch Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic win a championship after developing them and building a team around their talent. That’s why players should look into doing the same with the MyNBA game mode.
Updated by Shane Black on January 17, 2025: With the NBA season just about halfway over, there have been a lot of teams that have emerged as being in desperate need of rebuilding. With this new information now available, this article has been updated to provide more information for each team, as well as adding more information to give players even more options on who they can help rebuild.

Atlanta Hawks
Offense Needing Defense
- Have plenty of offensive weapons
- Defense could be a huge help
- Trae Young is a star
The Hawks are kind of an odd team as they aren’t that bad, but they seem to be slowly slipping down in the league. This can be reversed, though, if a player chooses to hop on to their roster. It won’t be a total rebuild, but it will be a process to get this team to where the fans would like them to be.
The Hawks have some solid offense but really could use some help on defense. Trae Young is a star, but he can’t defend much at all. Bringing that defense to the team will let Young really shine and hide the shortcomings of the team as a whole.

Brooklyn Nets
They Barely Missed Success Not Too Long Ago
The Brooklyn Nets were a team that had many eyebrows raised not too long ago. They had Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden on the roster, and they were one KD toe away from sending the Bucks home in the playoffs instead of going on to win the championship. However, that super team was short-lived, as drama among players saw the big three being broken up, and the Nets were back to square one.
This is where players can come in and make the Nets a team worth watching. For a long time, the Nets have been the “little brothers” to the Knicks, so they deserve to be in the spotlight.

Chicago Bulls
An Iconic Team That Could Reclaim Its 90s Glory
The Chicago Bulls have been trying to rebuild for quite some time. While many could argue that they have yet to fully commit to a rebuild, they are still a great option for doing so. The team is one of the most iconic of the entire NBA (thank you, Michael Jordan), and its fans have been eagerly waiting to see the team return to some kind of glory like they had in the 90s.
There are some good players to join in the rebuild, like Zach Lavine and Josh Giddey, that would make the experience an entertaining one for many players. On top of that, bringing a franchise that is so famous back to the spotlight is hard to pass up. With Lonzo Ball returning from injury as well, the Bulls could be on the precipice of improvement.

Detroit Pistons
A Team That Deserves It
- The Pistons have suffered for long enough
- Cade Cunningham deserves to shine as the point guard
- A truly satisfying return to glory
The Detroit Pistons have experienced a lot of pain over the past decade or so, and many fans are resigned to this continuing in the future. While they have good talent in Cade Cunningham, they just haven’t been able to put it all together and see some kind of success return to them.

With the recent release of NBA 2K25, many improvements over its predecessor are evident and most welcome. Here are the best ones.
This is why helping the team rebuild would be good. Players would be able to take a team that has long-been a joke around the NBA fandom and make it into something worth cheering for. Choosing to rebuild this team could give the Detroit fans something to cheer for; they really do deserve it. Plus, they are showing a lot of promise right now and the rebuild would not be as lengthy as once feared.

Miami Heat
Butler’s Exit Opens Doors
- Jimmy Butler wants out, but that can be a good thing
- Lots of talent still on the team
- An iconic team with one of the greatest coaches
The Miami Heat are not a terrible team but are in a bit of a spotty situation. The relationship with Jimmy Butler has disintegrated and is wanting out, leading to a very public break-up between the team and him. While losing a superstar would certainly spell doom for most teams, the Heat are in a beneficial situation where it does not.
Butler is the backbone of the Heat right now, but the team has a lot of good players still. Tyler Herro has taken a massive step forward with his three-point shooting, and Bam Adebayo is still a really good center. Jumping in to help this team build back after Butler’s departure would be a great experience.

Orlando Magic
A Fun Team That Could Also Be Great
- Young talent that is poised to develop
- A well-known franchise that team more attention
- Knocking on the door of success
The Orlando Magic are a well-known team. Maybe they aren’t as prominent as the Lakers or Celtics, but they’ve seen their fair share of time in the limelight. They haven’t won a championship, but they have been to the Finals twice, which is no small feat.
They have some good pieces right now that, when combined with new talent, could see some success coming their way fast. Playing with Banchero and the Wagners would make a roster that can go toe-to-toe with most teams in the league.

Sacramento Kings
New Coach, New Possibilities
- With a new coach on the horizon, the team needs stability
- Playing well after Brown, but that won’t last
- Sabonis has a ton of talent
The Kings returned to earth after they had their impressive 2023-2024 season. Despite winning the coach of the year award a few months ago, Mike Brown was fired as the team’s head coach. While this has led to the team going on a bit of winning streak, this won’t last long, and they will go back to their mean. This opens them up for a good rebuild.
But the team has so much talent, specifically with Domantas Sabonis, and that means that they can bounce back pretty quickly with the right moves. Rebuilding this team won’t be a very tough process.

San Antonio Spurs
Lead The Team Back With Wembanyama
- The Spurs deserve to be seen for Wembanyama and Popovich
- Great talent on the roster already
- Just a fun team to play
The Spurs are about to rise back to being a great team. Players who want to join a rebuild that isn’t going to last too long should seriously consider joining the squad now. With Wembanyama showing that he is, in fact, a generational talent that can be built around, Gregg Popovich is likely going to bring his team back to the limelight in no time.
Now is the time to jump on this wagon and see the wins start coming in. It cannot be understated how fun Wembanyama is to not only watch but play alongside. His monstrous dunking ability and even his solid shooting make him a teammate who can be a blast to join. The Spurs are on the rise and rebuilding them won’t be very long at all.
