Summary
- Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are rallying ahead of the game’s final update to try and get Larian to fix the Dark Urge storyline.
- For a while, fans have had major complaints regarding companion reactivity to certain events in the Dark Urge’s story, and fans are hoping Larian will address it in Update 8.
Baldur’s Gate 3 fans can’t exactly say they’ve had it rough this past year and a half. Despite the game being a predominantly single-player RPG, it’s had more support than some recently released live-service games, constantly updated with new features, quests, and dialogue to tweak and rebalance things that fans didn’t like. It even managed to take home last year’s Community Support award at The Game Awards.
Larian Studios now, understandably, wants to move onto different things, but there is one problem still in Baldur’s Gate 3 that fans are desperately trying to get Larian to both acknowledge and fix. That one problem is all about the Dark Urge, and how there is very little reaction from certain characters during certain scenes, which makes the whole story feel a little underwhelming.
If you still haven’t experienced the Dark Urge’s story and would like to remain spoiler free, this is your time to duck out.
Those of you reading that have experienced the tragedy of playing a Dark Urge will more than likely know what these fans are referring to. If you play the game as the Dark Urge, you’ll likely have encountered multiple shocking revelations or dramatic scenes that get barely a peep out of your so-called companions.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Wants Larian To Improve Dark Urge Story In Final Update
One of the bigger problems with this arises during one of the Dark Urge endings, in which you can choose to kill yourself and be revived by Withers. Due to the lack of reactions from your companions, one of whom you may have even romanced and be in a relationship with at that point, it makes it seem as though your party just doesn’t care about you in the slightest.

The makings of a completely different story…
With the last game’s final update on the horizon, a Reddit user called Feeling-Leg-6956 has attempted to rally other BG3 fans that want this ending altered in some meaningful way, asking people to make comments on Larian’s website, and to bump up a thread made in the Larian forums back in September about the whole situation.
As many are pointing out, with the update so close to release, it feels unlikely that Larian would be able to add anything particularly in-depth or meaningful if it hasn’t already, and we know Photo Mode is most likely going to be the big addition that the devs finish the game off with. There is a little bit of me hoping that Larian has another surprise up its sleeve though.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
