Known as the King of the horror genre, as well as his love for giving brief reviews of the TV shows and movies he watches, author Stephen King has shared his two favorite series’ that he thinks are better than any others from 2024 and beyond. Although King needs no introduction to many who have watched his films and read his plentiful collection of novels, the legendary author has also been known to make cameos in some adaptations of his own work.
His most recent surprise appearance was as a shopkeeper in the 2019 film It Chapter Two, but previous to that, Stephen King starred alongside other actors in TV shows like Sons of Anarchy as Bachman in one episode, a diner patron in his Under the Dome adaptation, and as himself in The Simpsons. Fans of the writer enjoy nothing more than seeing where the Maine native will pop up next, as his Easter egg cameos can make his work even more interesting. That’s, of course, if viewers can spot him in time. Over the past fifty years, King has gone beyond the pale of success with his books selling over 400 million copies, making him one of the most notable authors on the planet. It’s not only books that he excels at, as many of his masterpieces have been turned into films, TV shows, and even graphic novels. Even now, things couldn’t be better for King as his works are still being recognized and adapted, especially by The Haunting of Hill House director, Mike Flanagan.
Stephen King Picks Only Two TV Shows He Has Invested His Time In
Having made his way out of the toxic environment he experienced frequently on Twitter, Stephen King has now been posting on Bluesky. Making the most of his freedom to express himself without the fear of being judged, or hounded, King recently revealed the two TV shows that he has been enjoying throughout last year, which are the same shows that he’s looking forward to this year too. “There are really only two “mystery box” shows that I felt were worth my time last year and this coming year (for “mystery box shows,” think LOST): FROM and SILO. As always, your mileage may differ.” stated the author.
Some of the comments in the post praised his perfect recommendations as Marshall Burnette’s Silo has been a huge hit with science fiction fans. It’s not overly surprising that King would love the horror/supernatural series From, as it incorporates a lot of elements that are found in his novels, like its sense of small-town isolation and slow-burn build-up of dread. Previously, King revealed that a low-budget 1968 horror movie had kept him up at night and left him in “helpless terror”, but strangely, it wasn’t one of his own classic scary films that many fans would be too afraid to go to bed after watching.
Mike Flanagan, who is a huge fan of King’s, is currently adapting King’s novel Carrie for TV. However, there are no details about that just yet. Flanagan already has his full plate with the upcoming reboot of The Exorcist and adapting the King’s story, The Life of Chuck. In the past, King hasn’t held back on his disdain for adaptations of his work, with the most famous of the bunch, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. However, due to Flanagan’s adoration for the writer, the utmost care and respect will likely be paramount to the filmmaker.
