Why Stardew Valley is Still Worth Playing in 2025
Stardew Valley turns 9 years old in 2025, but some players still return to the game daily. Is it really still worth starting a farm in 2025?
Stardew Valley player and Reddit user aliensuperstars_ shared a charming moment their character shared with Sebastian, when they gifted the NPC a bowl of pumpkin soup. Avid fans of the character will know that it’s one of the best gifts for Sebastian in Stardew Valley, but prior to the 1.6 update, he would simply accept it graciously. Now, as seen in the screenshots, Sebastian acknowledges that it’s soup and thinks back fondly about its flavor. It’s an appropriate nod, as the only way that the player can learn how to make Pumpkin Soup
is by getting in the good graces of Robin, his mother, who sends the family recipe to the farmer once they have a high enough relationship score.
Sebastian’s Soup Acknowledgment Is Just One of 1.6’s Many Added Details
The Stardew Valley 1.6 update brought a ton of new content to the game, including events, more dialogue, cold weather clothing for NPCs, and more. While this dialogue detail with Sebastian is a tiny facet of it, it’s one of those things that players really love. It’s apparently also not the only time that a mention is made of Sebastian particularly loving his family’s recipe. In the official Stardew Valley cookbook, a recipe for a pumpkin soup is included, and there’s a small tip that notes that he adores his mom’s soup, but doesn’t want to tell her that.
Of course, this isn’t the only new dialogue that NPCs have in response to gifts. ConcernedApe added unique dialogue for NPCs who receive specific types of gifts that are part of their favorites. For example, Sebastian will also mention wanting to try and hatch any gifted Frog Egg
or Void Egg
, while Abigail will mention that Stardrop Tea
looks like her favorite, Amethyst, or will excitedly flip through a Monster Compendium due to her interest in exploring the caves.
After all these years, regular updates like these keep adding new features that surprise long-time players. While the future of Stardew Valley‘s updates remains to be seen, chances are fans will keep finding little details like this for a long time, even if 1.6 is the last major content update for the title.
