Situational Marvel Rivals Heroes With Very Specific Skillsets

Situational Marvel Rivals Heroes With Very Specific Skillsets

Summary

  • Namor excels at holding points with Monstro spawns, making him a strong Duelist in specific situations.
  • Loki requires clones for success and struggles in moving defense points, posing a high challenge for players.
  • Magneto is a unique Vanguard relying on positioning for shield protection and tanking, adding strategic depth to gameplay.

With a roster of over 30 heroes, and constantly growing, Marvel Rivals has several different types of heroes for all sorts of situations. From healers to tanks, to glass cannons, each hero type has several subtypes that (while not officially recognized) players have placed characters into.

Marvel Rivals: Heroes Who Should Always Be On The Same Team

The following pairs of heroes complement each other tremendously well in Marvel Rivals.

This list looks at 8 heroes from all three major types that are slightly more situational than others, being placed in a group of heroes to be picked if and when they are needed, as opposed to being general-use heroes. While a player could easily use any of these heroes (perhaps minus one) in most situations, they have more specific situations in which they shine.

8

Namor

Squire Of Squids

Marvel Rivals Namor
  • Duelist
  • Difficulty: 2 Stars

Namor is an interesting Duelist, with abilities that should make him good at range, in melee combat, and while holding a point. Of these three, however, he most definitely shines in situations where his team is attempting to hold a singular point, as this allows him to set up several Monstro spawns, allowing him to do considerable damage.

While Namor can hold his own against most other Duelists in a standard, 1-on-1 duel, his Monstro spawns push his kit over the edge, allowing him to burst down Duelists and Strategists with ease if set up properly.

7

Loki

Master Of Mischief

Marvel Rivals Loki
  • Strategist
  • Difficulty: 4 Stars

Loki is in a similar boat to Namor but to a much higher degree. Loki’s kit requires him to have multiple clones set up in order to function with any real level of success. These clones allow him to teleport around, heal allies, and damage enemies, without them he is at a distinct disadvantage.

Marvel Rivals: Heroes Who Should Never Be On The Same Team

While every Marvel Rivals hero and villain has something special they bring to the table, not all of them work well together on the battlefield.

As such, games where the point of defense is consistently moving are ones in which Loki can struggle, as his clones can easily be left behind. They can also be killed by enemies, meaning that a Loki player has to be strategic with their clone placement, ultimately making him pretty difficult to play.

6

Magneto

Magician Of Magnetism

Marvel Rivals Magneto
  • Vanguard
  • Difficulty: 2 Stars

Magneto is the first Vanguard on the list and is a unique hero as he doesn’t require as much setup as most of the other heroes on the list. However, his abilities are largely dependent on the proximity of both allies and enemies, his shields being focused on protecting allies and his ultimate being at its best when tanking enemy fire.

Magneto can be played in most matches but requires the player to focus heavily on their positioning as well as their team and opponents’ positioning, making Magneto a tank with a lot to think about. At least, that is if a player wants to get the most out of his kit.

5

Wolverine

Adamantium Animal

Marvel Rivals Wolverine
  • Duelist
  • Difficulty: 3 Stars

Wolverine is a hero at his best when faced with multiple tanks, as his abilities allow him to tear through high-health targets, as well as grab flying enemies from out of the sky. However, against multiple ranged Duelists, Wolverine can struggle as they can easily dispatch him before he is able to do much of anything.

Wolverine is best used in teams that can hold enemy focus while he flanks, and against disorganized enemy teams, and without either of these things, a Wolverine player can struggle in a game. Even in games where Wolverine struggles, however, he can still be incredibly fun to play and is worth giving a go.

4

Mister Fantastic

Smartest Man Alive

Marvel Rivals Mister Fantastic-6
  • Duelist
  • Difficulty: 3 Stars

Another melee range Duelist, Mister Fantastic has a kit that requires him to get very up-close and personal with the enemy team, and hope that they don’t understand how his reflection ability works. He can dash in and out of combat, smash enemies together, and reflect damage thrown at him, before bouncing into the air and slamming down for good damage.

Marvel Rivals: 7 Underpowered Characters That Are Fun To Use

They might not be the strongest characters in Marvel Rivals, but their fun factor makes them addicting to play in every match.

While this kit may seem well-rounded, it can easily be countered by tanks who know how to keep him off their backlines, and his reflection ability is useless if enemies choose not to attack him while using it. For these reasons, he can feel underwhelming in general play, but can also work incredibly well in the right situations.

3

Peni Parker

Mecha Madness

Marvel Rivals Peni Parker
  • Vanguard
  • Difficulty: 4 Stars

Another Vanguard, and hero that requires a lot of setup, Peni Parker is yet again another hero that is most powerful in defense modes. Peni Parker’s abilities hinge on setting up her web and spider mines, which are stationary constructs, making them most powerful in moments where the Peni player’s team is holding a specific point.

If a team is on attack, moving up quickly and trying to push an enemy team back, Peni Parker is one of the worst tank options, being relatively slow-moving and her kit being immobile. However, if defending, she can be one of the most difficult heroes to deal with, especially with her ultimate ability being able to push enemies off the point.

2

Black Widow

Situational Sniper

Black Widow in Marvel Rivals with description of abilities and difficulty rating
  • Duelist
  • Difficulty: 4 Stars

Black Widow is a sniper, and as such requires strategic placement and knowledge of maps to allow for well-crafted sight lines. The main situational element of Black Widow’s kit is simply the player’s skill, as her kit is difficult to pick up and even harder to master. As a very squishy hero who can really struggle in melee combat, as well as requiring pinpoint accuracy for effective use, most players would be better off running a hero like Hawkeye.

Despite being able to deal significant amounts of damage, these Marvel Rivals ultimate abilities can be tricky to use to their full effect.

That being said, a player who can get good at Black Widow, as well as positioning on all maps, can be a real problem for an enemy team, able to take out enemy healers in an instant without their tanks being able to stop the massacre. Black Widow is a difficult, yet potentially rewarding hero, that requires a lot of work to make useful.

1

Bruce Banner

Hulk’s Little Friend

Marvel Rivals Bruce Banner
  • Vanguard
  • Difficulty: 4 Stars

The final hero on this list is easily the most situational hero in the game. Bruce Banner is the precursor to Hulk, with his ultimate ability turning him into a tanky green beast. Outside of this, he has an underwhelming gun and a grenade that pushes enemies away, and that is his entire kit. There is no reason to “play” as Bruce Banner other than having been knocked out of Hulk state, waiting for his ultimate to recharge.

While there are players who claim to be “Bruce Banner Mains” (whether this is serious or a joke is somewhat unclear), he is simply one-third of a character, and only has one-third of a kit, making his use case simply waiting for Hulk to return.
