Marvel Rivals Season 1 has turned Storm into a player-annihilating powerhouse

Marvel Rivals‘ Storm, the weather wielding X-Men member, has established herself as a popular choice, not least because of her flight and lightning-hurling abilities. But the Marvel Rivals Season 1 update has buffed her even more, to the point of matching her Omega-level comic self.

Marvel Rivals, Netease and Marvel’s superhero-based multiplayer game, is an absolute riot, no matter who you’re playing as. However, the game’s Season 1 update has made weather-wielding mutant Storm a mustache-twirling joy to play as and a bit of a nightmare if you’re on the receiving end of her powers.

Storm has always been badass and she is classed as Omega-level in Marvel’s comics, making her one of the most powerful mutants out there. But her recent buff has given her powers an extra boost, eclipsing Jeff the Land Shark as one of the most satisfying characters to play as.

I was, until I tried playing as post-buff Storm, an unashamed Jeff the Land Shark main. There was nothing quite as satisfying as using his ultimate to gulp up a group of enemies, killing them by flinging yourself into the abyss. This tactic proved so popular that Marvel Rivals’ director himself offered advice on how to avoid Jeff’s ultimate.

But Storm is on a whole new level, to the point that within minutes of stepping into her shoes, I hit a ten-kill, sorry, ten-KO streak. Season 1’s update buffs her in three crucial ways; her Wind Blade projectile is faster and does more damage, her Bolt Rush attack does more damage, and her ultimate not only gives her more bonus health, but that health ticks away more quickly.

So if you do survive her nightmarish tornado-based ultimate attack, running is your best option. As spotted by PCGamer, the general advice given to teams facing her is not to clump together. That same advice can help teams avoid Jeff’s ultimate, though given the height of that attack has been reduced, Storm also has a better chance of living though it.

So if you’re finding Marvel Rivals tough going, pick Storm and you’ve got a great chance of wiping the floor with all those lesser heroes. Sorry, Jeff.
