Thanks to Marvel Rivals, superhero fans are being treated to a celebration of the Marvel universe. Not only are they able to step into the shoes of over 30 different iconic heroes, but they also have access to a plethora of cosmetics and collectibles based on decades of stories. With the launch of Marvel Rivals’ season one, that celebration is expanding even further with The Fantastic Four and a slew of new costumes. But, while that all sounds great, the best new addition may come with Spider-Man’s newly announced costume.
On January 30, Marvel Rivals players will be able to purchase a brand-new skin for Spider-Man themed after Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Up until now, the game had only really explored comic books, original costumes, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, with this release, that seems to be changing as it starts to delve into the world of video games. And hopefully, it is just a sign of things to come from Marvel Rivals‘ future cosmetics.

Marvel Rivals’ Insomniac Spider-Man Skin Could Lead to So Much More
There Are Numerous Marvel Video Games Filled With Unique Costumes
Over the years, Marvel has had countless games exploring its many characters and stories. Players have gotten to play as Spider-Man in so many different titles, the X-Men have had their chance to shine in dozens of adventures, and even Blade and the Punisher have had their time in the spotlight. More recently, players have been treated to titles such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Marvel’s Avengers, and even Marvel Snap. No matter what major character players have fallen in love with in Marvel Rivals, there is likely another game that either stars or includes them.
While some of those games are based on films, a lot of them have also taken the characters and put a new spin on them. Because of that, they have had their own unique looks and style, like Insomniac’s Spider-Man costumes. So, that means there is a massive catalog of costumes just waiting to be pulled from. And if Marvel Rivals is able to tap into what Insomniac has created, then there is seemingly no reason it could not do the same with the rest of Marvel’s expansive catalog.
Marvel Rivals May Also Be a Great Way to Advertise What’s Coming
Not only could Marvel Rivals celebrate the studio’s history in the video game space, but it could also be used as a way to advertise what looms on the horizon. As of now, there are numerous titles for players to look forward to over the next couple of years. Skydance New Media is hard-at-work on Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Insomniac is expanding its slice of the Marvel universe with Marvel’s Wolverine, EA has multiple Marvel games in the works, and Arkane Lyon is set to take Blade for a spin.
When the release dates for those games approach, Marvel Rivals could introduce new skins based on said titles. While there is a chance it will have minimal impact on the sales numbers, it could at least help put these titles in the public eye more. Insomniac’s Spider-Man skin is already following this model, as it is being introduced to mark the PC debut of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. So, it would only make sense for even more tie-in promotions for future video games.
It remains to be seen if the Insomniac skin is a one-off or if there are numerous video game-themed skins already in the pipeline. If there is not, then there really should be. Marvel Rivals is already highlighting the film and comic world of Marvel, and if it added video games to the mix, then it could truly be a celebration of the brand.
