Trading in Path of Exile 2 works a bit differently than the first game. Rather than leaving the game and heading to the official website for the game to search for open trades, you can now do it directly from the game. This makes the process a bit smoother and less intimidating.
How To Unlock The Currency Exchange
Rather than just strolling up to any merchant and trading from the start of the game, you will need to unlock the Currency Exchange. In order to unlock this function, you will need to beat the main campaign. At this point in time, this will only consist of the first three acts; once these are complete, you will be in Cruel difficulty.
This may change when Path of Exile 2 leaves Early Access! For now though, you just need to complete the first three acts of the game.
Once this happens, you will unlock the Currency Exchange. There are no extra quests that you need to do in order to unlock the Currency Exchange; it automatically unlocks. To use the Currency Exchange, you just need to talk to the gambling NPCs. Prior to unlocking the exchange, these NPCs could only trade random gear for gold.

Overall, it’s important to keep in mind that the Currency Exchange is not something that you can unlock early into the game. To get the currencies you want, you’ll need to find or buy them from vendors. This can be tedious, but it’s also a great way to build up your currency stash in preparation for the Currency Exchange.
How To Use The Currency Exchange
So, how do you use the Currency Exchange? From the menu, you’ll be able to browse for any currency that you want and select it from the “I Want” tab. This is an exchange though, so you’ll then need to choose something in the “I Have” tab.
From the “I Have” tab, you can choose pretty much anything, but it’s important to note that there are some ‘standards’ when it comes to exchange. For example, most people won’t just accept some Scrolls of Wisdoms for a rare currency.
Currently, Exalted Orbs are the standard currency that players are working with. When you click on the “I Have” option, you’ll then see the Market Ratio set to the standard, but this can be changed if you want. Overall, try to stick to the standard Market Ratio; you’ll have a better chance of getting the currency that you want.
If the ratio mechanic is a bit confusing don’t worry! Say the ratio is 6:1 for Lesser Jeweller’s Orbs and Exalted Orbs. This means that for six Lesser Jeweller’s Orbs, you can exchange one Exalted Orb.
Once you are satisfied with the trade, go ahead and click on “Place Order”. If there is someone who essentially did the same thing with the trade going the other way, you’ll see it show up as completed.
Sometimes, the order may not be filled immediately. If this is the case, you’ll need to wait. You can only list ten things at a time, but there are a lot of people looking to trade, so you may not be sitting with the same orders for a while.
That’s all there is to trading! The Market Ratio fluctuates, which is pretty common; there are tons of players always looking to trade, so this affects the values of currency. If a trade doesn’t seem worth it, consider waiting a bit and seeing if the ratio changes.
