In Divinity: Original Sin 2, the final act presents some of the most challenging enemy types. Among them are the Cursed Revenants, who ambush you when you visit the charred consulate of lizards in the city of Arx.
At first, these revenants appear to be ordinary lizards. However, killing one spawns an invincible Infernal Ego portal, capable of resurrecting these creatures. Successfully defeating the revenants involves understanding the source of their resurrection and eliminating it.

Defeating Lucian’s automatons requires using Source abilities, as traditional methods won’t keep them down.
Cursed Revanents Are Invincible
Unlike most battles in Divinity: Original Sin 2, brute force combat strategies fail against the Cursed Revenants. You can keep killing these creatures, but they will continuously respawn to make your life difficult. When you kill a revenant, it leaves behind an Infernal Ego portal that is immune to all damage types.

Reaching Bloodmoon Island in Divinity: Original Sin 2 depends on your mastery of Source. Here’s how to get to this eerie and mysterious island.
If you pay attention to the battlefield, you’ll notice that both the Cursed Revenants and their resurrection portals—the Infernal Egos—position themselves on necrofire surfaces. Removing the necrofire will prevent the Infernal Egos and, consequently, the Cursed Revenants from spawning. However, this is easier said than done, as necrofire, unlike regular fire, is immune to Hydrosophist spells like Rain.
How To Remove Necrofire In Divinity: Original Sin 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 offers several tools that players can use to deal with necrofire, but some strategies are better than others. Below is a list of strategies for managing or removing necrofire, ranging from least to most effective:
- Remove the Curse: Being a cursed element, necrofire is immune to standard Hydro spells. However, certain spells like Bless and Blood Rain can remove the cursed status, turning necrofire into regular fire. Once converted, you can use a standard Hydro spell like Rain or simply drop a nearby water barrel to extinguish the flames.
- Use Tornado: The Tornado spell is arguably the most effective terrain-clearing tool in the game. Casting Tornado clears a significant patch of necrofire, restricting the areas where revenants can respawn. However, Tornado has a long cooldown, making it less reliable for consecutive uses.
- Transmute the Terrain: While not as efficient as Tornado, the Terrain Transmutation spell enables you to swap portions of terrain. This can be used to replace necrofire with normal terrain, removing large patches of it for the Infernal Egos to reposition.
- Teleport: Since the Cursed Revenants and Infernal Egos rely on necrofire, another effective strategy is to teleport them away from the cursed surface before killing them. If the Infernal Ego cannot reach necrofire in a single turn, it will be destroyed.
Killing a Cursed Revenant on a blessed surface, such as Blessed Water, will prevent the Infernal Ego from appearing. Additionally, casting healing spells like Restoration and First Aid directly damages these revenants.
