An Important Figure From Chopper’s Past

Dr. Hiriluk was first introduced very early on in the story during the flashback on Drum Island. He was an incredibly whacky and zany character who was defined by his desire to help people through his medical expertise, only his practices often did more harm than good. However, his intentions were always pure as he genuinely only wanted to help others through the crazy inventions he made and never really wanted a reward for them.

After coming across Chopper, he tried to help him but the reindeer fought back. Rather than harm him in return, Hiriluk forcefully claimed Chopper under his wing, becoming a sort of father figure to him and, eventually, his greatest inspiration. Right off the bat, this sounds like something Luffy would do, which is only the start of the theory of why many consider Hiriluk to be a lost member of the D. Clan.

However, the main reason why people tend to believe this about him has to do with his death. Although he was facing death at the hands of Wapol, Hiriluk drank a soup made with a poisonous mushroom before the corrupt king could do anything to him, choosing to end his life on his own terms instead of giving Wapol the satisfaction of killing him. Not only was this a final heroic show of defiance on Hiriluk’s part, but it was also the biggest reason why many consider him to be a hidden D. Clan member.

This is because the characters belonging to this mysterious clan are those defined by their incredible ambition and mindsets to do what they have set their minds to, which Hiriluk falls under. Moreover, the most damning evidence of why he may belong to the D. Clan is because he died with a smile on his face, which is noted to be indicative of the members of this clan doing so, which was seen with notable members Ace and Roger.

How This Can Change The Story

All in all, the revelation about Hiriluk being a member of the D. Clan doesn’t mean a lot to the overall story of One Piece. While this would undoubtedly be an incredible reveal, Hiriluk’s impact on the story was quite minimal other than the fact he brought up Chopper and made him into the incredible doctor that he is now. However, there is a different theory about this whacky doctor that seems to work alongside this one and, if true, could provide context to one of the series’ most important events.

This theory states that Dr. Hiriluk is actually the infamous pirate from decades past; Rocks D. Xebec. It states that after the God Valley Incident, the forces of the Rocks Pirates were defeated, but the captain himself made an escape, living away from the spotlight of the World Government, eventually taking on the alias of Dr. Hiriluk and devoting the remainder of his life to saving people instead of hurting them.

The timeline of when Hiriluk claimed to be a thief was around 38 years before the start of the main story and said that he was active in the West Blue. Not only does the date line up with the God Valley Incident, but the location of the island itself was in the West Blue as well. If this truly is the case and Hiriluk has actually been Rocks this whole time, it would change everything and would make perfect sense with Hiriluk being a member of the D. Clan, but until Oda reveals the truth, it all remains pure speculation.
