How Far Would The Straw Hats Make It Without Luffy?

How Far Would The Straw Hats Make It Without Luffy?

Summary

  • Without Luffy, the East Blue and beginning of the Grand Line would be simpler.
  • The crew may lose Robin at Enies Lobby without Luffy’s guidance.
  • The Straw Hats would likely be defeated in the New World without Luffy’s leadership and training.

Throughout One Piece, the Straw Hats have demonstrated time and time again that they are a powerful unit. When together, it seems like there are very few obstacles in the world of One Piece that the crew couldn’t overcome. With Luffy to guide them through the perils of the Grand Line, the Straw Hat Crew is destined for greatness.

However, would the Straw Hats still be nearly as successful without their strongest crew member and captain, Luffy? Luffy, being the strongest fighter of the crew, and the driving, emotional force behind everyone’s motivations, provides an essential role on the crew and often handles their toughest opponents. Although it seems unlikely, even without Luffy, the Straw Hat Crew would make it relatively far in the world of One Piece. However, at the same time, the world would be an entirely different place.

This article will assume that, despite events not playing out exactly as they would normally, each Straw Hat member would eventually still join the crew.

Without Luffy The East Blue Saga And Beginning Of The Grand Line Would Be Simple

Without Luffy Causing Chaos And Getting Involved In Conflicts Its An Easy Ride

Starting in the East Blue, Luffy was a liberating force that helped free most of the Straw Hats from their plights. For example, Luffy freed Zoro and gave him his swords, defeated Kuro for Usopp, and took out the East Blue menace, Arlong, to liberate Nami. While he was important in these situations, for most of the East Blue Saga, Zoro could handle all the main antagonistic threats that the Straw Hats dealt with before.

I’m pretty sure I can’t live without being helped! – Luffy

Heading to the Grand Line, as the Straw Hats would most likely skip Loguetown without Luffy, the crew would have their encounter at Whiskey Peak, and pick up Vivi for their crew. However, since Vivi simply asked the Straw Hats to bring her to One Piece’s kingdom of Alabasta, without Luffy’s intense drive to help, it seems more unlikely that they would join her cause to liberate her kingdom. On the way, they would pick up Chopper and, though Little Garden would be a challenge, in different circumstances, Zoro would be able to defeat Galdino. In this scenario, Robin would miraculously escape Crocodile and join the Straw Hats.

Once again, visiting Sky Island, without Luffy it seems more likely that the crew wouldn’t get mixed up in Enel’s plot to destroy Skypiea, and would most likely find a way to leave after their log pose is ready. A similar trend would follow to Water 7, and meet up with Franky. Here, Robin would leave the crew, and the rest of the Straw Hats would need to rescue her at Enies Lobby. However, this may be the first hard roadblock for the Straw Hats without Luffy. In fact, the Buster Call combined with Rob Lucci may take down the crew once and for all.

However, if they leave Robin to her own decisions, which is something that may happen if someone like Zoro were in charge, the crew would continue to One Piece’s Thriller Bark, assist Brook, and with the help of a potential Nightmare Zoro form, defeat Gecko Moria. Afterward, the crew would land on Sabaody and enter the New World without a problem, since Luffy wouldn’t be there to punch the Celestial Dragon.

Without Time Skip Training The Straw Hats Would Be Easy Targets

New World One Piece

Sadly, this is most likely where the Straw Hats would meet their untimely end without the help of Luffy. Either the crew would need to join one of the Emperor groups, like most of the other One Piece Worst Generation members, or they would be defeated on Punk Hazard or Dressrosa by an enemy pirate crew. While Zoro or Sanji may be able to hold their own for a little bit, at this point in the story, and without time skip training, the crew would fall apart.

In the end, although they would make it far without Luffy, the Straw Hat captain acts as the glue that holds the crew together. Without him, the story wouldn’t be the same. Kingdoms would still be under tyrannical leaders and villains who were supposed to be defeated would still roam free. Luffy’s passion and willingness to help those in need are qualities that make him the perfect captain for the rest of the Straw Hats in One Piece.
