The Holy Knights’ true purpose is revealed. Here’s why Oda added them to One Piece.

Undoubtedly, the two members of the Holy Knights are raising curiosity in the fans to sky-high levels and one of them has finally had their name, as well as their powers revealed to the fans. This character is none other than Gunko, who fans expect to be very powerful, with small showings of her strength already having been provided to the readers.

The Order Of the Holy Knights

  • A Mighty Group That Protects The Celestial Dragons
  • A Group With Higher Authority Than The Marines

The Holy Knights of One Piece were first brought up in the story around the same time the Wano arc concluded. After the mess that was the Reverie, the Holy Knights saw to it that the problems of the Celestial Dragons at the Holy Land of Marijoa were taken care of. This was a worry for the likes of Akainu, especially because the involvement of the Holy Knights meant that he and the Marines were especially powerless, implying clearly that the authority of the Holy Knights is far greater than that of any member of the Marines. This also leads one to believe that the Holy Knights are essentially an order of the Celestial Dragons themselves, meaning the mighty Celestial Dragons who can fight are a part of this order.

Our real war begins once the Holy Knights take action. — Dragon

In One Piece chapter 1136, fans got to see the two members of the Holy Knights who infiltrated the land of Elbaf try to recruit Loki for the position. Naturally, this caused confusion among the fans who, up until this point, were under the assumption that the Holy Knights are simply Celestial Dragons. Clearly, Loki is a commoner in the eyes of the Celestial Dragons. By every law of the land, he shouldn’t even be anywhere near to getting a position among the Holy Knights. But, the answer to this question is simple. Had Loki accepted the offer, he would’ve been made a Celestial Dragon. This doesn’t mean anyone can just become a Celestial Dragon. After all, they must have the blood of the founding 20. But, for Loki, this exception can be made because of his world-shattering power, which has already been compared to the Ancient Weapons in One Piece. Just as the Five Elders were ready to make York a Celestial Dragon simply because she could power up Uranus, A similar exception can be made for Loki. This simply leads one to believe that the Holy Knights truly are a Celestial Dragon order until proven otherwise.

St. Figarland Garling

In terms of strength, fans should expect each member of the Holy Knights to be a monster in combat. A direct hint at their level of strength was given to the fans by Dragon, the Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army. According to him, the real war of the Revolutionary Army will begin once the Holy Knights make a move, which goes to show that even he is wary of them.

Gunko And Her Powers So Far

Gunko is The First Holy Knight to Be Fully Revealed

In One Piece chapter 1134, fans saw two members of the Holy Knights infiltrate Elbaf through a summoning circle similar to the one that the Five Elders utilized in the Egghead Arc. This time, two individuals popped out of the summoning circle and one of them absolutely shocked the fans. While the first one looked like a bandaged woman, the other was the same Shanks lookalike that fans had seen in One Piece chapter 907. Of course, it goes without saying that the Shanks lookalike is the more interesting character here, but that’s also why Oda is saving his powers and name for later in the arc.

For now, Oda has revealed some information on the bandaged woman in Elbaf, and she certainly looks like a menacing individual. The official name of the bandaged woman is Gunko, which loosely translates to a warship. Her design sees her hide her arms inside a long-sleeved jacket and she seems to have eyes of two different colours.

Fans have also seen a glimpse of her powers already. Gunko can control and produce bandages, which seems to imply that she has a Paramecia type of Devil Fruit. The application of this Devil Fruit could be very similar to the power of the Ito Ito no Mi, which was wielded by none other than Doflamingo. With this power, Gunko can shoot bandages at anyone almost instantaneously and constrict them incredibly hard, so much so that she can stop their blood flow lift them in the air, and cause severe damage with pressure even to Giants.

One Piece: Zoro’s First Big Elbaf Fight, Explained

Zoro will have a major fight in Elbaf. Here’s his next opponent in One Piece.

In One Piece chapter 1136, she was able to lift Loki’s wolf in the air and was almost about to execute him. Although this might look like a small feat, it must be remembered that this wolf is an animal of the Underworld of Elbaf. In each animal, there is a monster comparable to or stronger than the ones Luffy faced in Ruskaina. This means the wolf is so strong that it would need Luffy to tap into Gear 4 and use advanced Haki to beat. Based on this, Gunko is strong enough to casually beat a Gear 4-level enemy effortlessly.

Gunko’s Haki

So far, Gunko’s Haki hasn’t been revealed to the fans. However, she is undoubtedly going to be a Haki user. At the very least, fans should expect Gunko to have 2 types of Haki, those being Armament and Observation. It is highly likely that Gunko has advanced Haki usage because a Holy Knight tasked with the most important job in the world, and more importantly, someone strong enough to make even Dragon think twice, should have advanced Haki types. Whether Gunko has the power to utilize Conqueror’s Haki or not remains to be seen, but it shouldn’t be a surprise if she does. Although it is likely that only the Shanks lookalike has it, while Gunko makes use of other abilities. Nonetheless, so far, she’s proven to be impressive, to say the least.

Gunko should, at the very least, be stronger than Yonko right hands, such as Katakuri and King. Her strength tier should be somewhat similar to that of Zoro right now, if not higher. Fans have no idea how high Oda will make the Holy Knights go, and soon enough, they will find out. The Shanks lookalike is bound to be Yonko level, but the others will likely have varying strengths. Still, they should be close to the level of a Marine Admiral, even if they’re not exactly as strong as them.
