Far Cry 3 Steam achievements are finally here as Ubisoft rollout continues

Far Cry 3 feels like a tipping point in Ubisoft’s catalog. It was a dramatic shift in tone from its predecessor, embracing full-tilt chaos and leaning into the open-world formula that the Assassin’s Creed games had so dramatically popularized over the few years prior. It was also an absolute blast, and if you’ve ever been tempted to revisit the misadventures of its peril-plagued, party-going protagonist Jason Brody, there’s now one more reason, as Ubisoft finally pushes the much-requested Steam achievements feature live.

Following the introduction of Far Cry 4 Steam achievements at the start of this week, the feature has now been added to Far Cry 3. It feels like there’s an ever-rolling debate as to the best Far Cry game – indeed, it still rages on in PCGamesN towers to this day. While I might personally nudge the fourth game ahead, and I’ll always have an affinity for the sheer tension and atmosphere of the second, FC3 remains a sublime entry in the series of open-world games, and the inclusion of Steam achievements is a nice reminder to go back.

Far Cry 3 marks the jump from the cramped, punishing jungles of the original game to the gung-ho sandbox freedom that the series is known for today. It reimagines a game high in friction, one where you’re constantly contending with everything from Malaria and gun jams to full-fledged forest fires, to create a playground of destruction wherein you torch weed fields with a flamethrower while Skrillex blares on the stereo. It’s lorded over by iconic nemesis,Vaas, whose in-your-face monologues from actor Michael Mando quickly earned him a place among gaming’s most recognizable antagonists.

Whether you’ve been looking for a reason to revisit Far Cry 3, want an excuse to play it for the first time, or simply seek to bulk up your total number of Steam achievements, now you can. For those using Ubisoft Connect, progress will sync across, so if you’ve already unlocked trophies in the past you’ll just need to launch FC3 on the Valve platform and your achievements should be registered.

In even better news, Ubisoft has removed Far Cry 3’s six multiplayer achievements from the list altogether, due to the servers being offline. While it’s a slight shame the mode is no longer playable, it’s unlikely to be the draw for anyone and the ability to claim 100% achievement completion on your Steam profile without needing to grind those out is a very welcome change.
