Levels in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD are all unique in some way, and as a result, no two stages feel the same. While it isn’t a particularly dangerous level, Sunset Shore is unique because of how the entire stage is black. Even Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are just silhouettes in the intense light of the sunset over the ocean, and you can only see them because their attire is red.

This level is also unique in that you can only access it if you buy a Map Key from Cranky Kong. Because the entire stage is the same color, it can be very easy to miss the collectibles. So if you are having a hard time finding the letters and puzzle pieces, here is where they are located in Sunset Shore.

All Letter Locations

The first letter is pretty easy to spot. Right as the level begins, go right and you will see it below you. Smash the ground to reach the letter ‘K’.

Later on in the level, you will see the second letter floating up in the air. Even with Diddy Kong, it is very difficult to reach it. You will need to time a jump so that you hit the head of a frog while it is in the air, giving you the boost you need to reach the ‘O’.

After you go back up from retrieving the second puzzle piece, go left and head back up. Use Diddy’s Rocket Jump to reach the letter ‘N’.

Just like the first letter, ‘G’ is pretty easy to spot. Near the end of the level, you will see a bunch of platforms you need to jump over. On the ground below, you will see the letter ‘G’ under a spot that you can access by slamming the ground.

All Puzzle Piece Locations

At the very start of the level, immediately go left. There is a hidden area behind you where you will find the first puzzle piece.

Shortly after the check point, you will see a spot where the top of the wall looks like the sun. Stand in the middle of this spot and the platform will drop after a few seconds. In this area you will find a bunch of coins and the second puzzle piece.

The third puzzle piece is found shortly after the letter ‘N’. There will be a small alcove underneath the platform that you are supposed to jump onto to progress further into the level. Wait for the frogs to move (or get rid of them) and then go to the right to find a hidden area where the puzzle piece.

Further ahead, you will see what appears to be some badly damaged scaffolding. Slam the ground underneath it to make two platforms appear, and then jump up to the top to find the fourth puzzle piece.

The final puzzle piece is near the end of the level. Normally, you would smash the boxes. Before doing that, get on top of the boxes and jump so that you land on top of the structure that looks like a creature. Go to the right and then jump up to reach the fifth puzzle piece.

Time Attack Tips

The trick to this level is mastering rolling and jumping. If done correctly, you will move much faster. Of course, you also need to time this with either dodging enemies as well. Be aware that some enemies cannot be rolled over, especially the enemies hiding in bushes and the ones that look like drums. Avoid getting hit as much as possible, as this does slow you down. While timing is not as critical as it was with Canopy Cannon, it is still important.
