Characters With The Most Losses In Bleach

Characters With The Most Losses In Bleach

Summary

  • Many characters in Bleach with extensive fight histories have high loss counts.
  • Losses don’t necessarily diminish a character if they still secure important wins.
  • Characters like Renji, Hisagi, and Ichigo have notable loss records, showcasing their growth.

Just because a character has been in a bunch of fights across the Bleach story doesn’t necessarily mean that they have a high win count. In fact, the majority of individuals who have been in their fair share of intense fights have usually racked up more than a few losses along the way, despite how powerful and talented they might be as a fighter.

Bleach: Every Arc, Ranked By Number Of Fights

For any Bleach fans who want to re-watch some of the most action-packed parts of the series, here is how many fights can be expected from each arc.

Of course, having an extensive number of losses doesn’t matter all that much, so long as the character manages to pull off the victory when it counts most, and in some cases, they can provide an indication of how far the character has come since they first debuted in the story. For others, though, it’s simply humiliating just how many times they’ve managed to be taken down.

This list will only be taking into consideration the Bleach manga and additional fights that were added in the Thousand-Year Blood War anime; filler fights will not be counted.

8

Sajin Komamura

Number Of Losses: 3

  • Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 81
  • Anime Debut: Episode 24

It’s hard to ever forget the moment the mighty Komamura was slashed to near-death by Aizen as a show of strength from the traitor during the Soul Society arc. He would restore his reputation late in the series with a valiant sacrifice that ended in defeat for Bambietta, but before that, Komamura had a solid run of losses that didn’t paint a great picture of his underlying strength.

When trying to take down his old friend, Tosen, who had become corrupted by Aizen’s influence, Tosen’s mutations proved too much for Komamura to handle, eventually resulting in his Bankai being destroyed before the wolf-man himself lay defenseless on the ground. Aizen would also make quick work of Komamura not long after, though that’s not too big of an embarrassment considering how absurdly powerful his opponent was at the time.

7

Ikkaku Madarame

Number Of Losses: 3

  • Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 85
  • Anime Debut: Episode 26

It’s not long after Ichigo enters the Soul Society that he runs into a luck-obsessed and shiny-headed lieutenant known as Ikkaku. This was Ichigo’s very first real test in the Soul Society arc, and it was one that he managed to pass, after an intense battle which saw Ikakku being cut down to size. Ikkaku would come back with a vengeance in the Arrancar arc after unleashing his Bankai, but he saw more losses in the final arc where he was only afforded a little bit of screen time.

Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War: 7 New Content Predictions For Cour 4

Cour 4 of the Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War is looking like it will feature a ton of new content, but what unique scenes will are going to be shown?

He was one of the several Soul Reapers who took a beating from Mask de Masculine, but he would also underestimate the sick and twisted Giselle who managed to scare Ikakku away with her zombies and bombs.

6

Rose

Number Of Losses: 4

  • Manga Debut: Volume 24, Chapter 214
  • Anime Debut: Episode 122

As a formidable member of the Vizard and a captain of the Gotei 13, Rojuro (or Rose as he’s commonly known) was presented as being a pretty formidable foe. His battles unfortunately didn’t reflect this, though, as after losing a brief skirmish to the number 1 Espada, Starrk, Rose would end up being handed what many consider to be the most humiliating defeat in the entire series against Mask de Masculine.

Upon activating his flashy music-based Bankai, Rose decides to tell Mask exactly how his ability works, allowing his opponent to clog his ears, avoiding its effects entirely. All of the Soul Reapers had a tough time securing victories during the war against the Quincy, and this especially goes for the Captain of Squad 3.

5

Toshiro Hitsugaya

Number Of Losses: 4

  • Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 81
  • Anime Debut: Episode 24

The child prodigy of the Gotei 13, Toshiro Hitsugaya, has a pretty mixed win to loss record overall. His losses usually come down to his lack of experience, since while Hitsugaya is one of the most naturally gifted captains who possess a devastating Bankai, he can still be a little naive, which would be the cause of his downfall in his two fights against Aizen, which didn’t end well for him.

Hitsugaya also didn’t see much success in the Thousand-Year Blood War until the very end. After being obliterated by Bazz-B, Hitsugaya turned into a mindless zombie, receiving yet another loss, this time against his fellow captain, Mayuri. Similar to Ichigo, Hitsugaya learns from his losses and builds upon his skills and combat knowledge with each fight. Despite being bested multiple times, he’s still not someone to get on the bad side of.

4

Chad

Number Of Losses: 4

  • Manga Debut: Volume 1, Chapter 7
  • Anime Debut: Episode 2

“I could never imagine Chad losing” is a now infamous quote said by Ichigo after he suddenly felt his friend’s Spiritual Pressure dropping to life-threatening levels. The truth is that Chad losing is very much a reality, and though he has picked up wins here and there, such as against the Arrancar Gantenbainne, this is largely overshadowed by his defeats.

Bleach: 8 Bankai That Are New Or Improved In The Anime

The Bleach anime is going all-out with its Bankai scenes, making these attacks look even more powerful than they did in the manga.

Before Shunsui would effortlessly squash Chad without breaking a sweat, Ichigo’s best pal would face a loss against Shrieker, a Hollow who exposed Chad’s lack of experience and skill. Chad isn’t really suited for one-on-one fights; he instead prefers to help out by protecting Ichigo and the gang with his impressive durability.

3

Shuhei Hisagi

Number Of Losses: 5

  • Manga Debut: Volume 9, Chapter 72
  • Anime Debut: Episode 21

Among the Bleach community, Hisagi is often viewed as Tite Kubo’s very own punching bag, referring to how this guy seems to take many losses, despite only being a side character. After Yumichika outmaneuvered Hisagi and left him in the dust, it became clear that the latter still had a long way to go, but it wouldn’t be long before he would go back to handing out wins for his opponents.

Mask de Masculie crushed Hisagi when the two came face to face during the final war, but that wouldn’t be all for Hisagi, as he then becomes Pepe’s mindless puppet who was forced to take on Byakuya, until almost meeting his untimely fate after being shot by Lille Barro, the self-proclaimed ‘messenger’ of god.

2

Renji Abarai

Number Of Losses: 5

  • Manga Debut: Volume 6, Chapter 51
  • Anime Debut: Episode 15

Despite a strong first showing where he humiliated Ichigo in front of his own captain, Renji didn’t exactly see much success in his first few real fights in the series. When he and Ichigo finally have their rematch, despite matching one another in strength, Ichigo was able to overcome Renji, convincing him to then turn on Byakuya in an attempt to free Rukia.

However, Renji’s solo mutiny didn’t last long, as Byakuya would use Senbonzakura to slice his lieutenant to pieces. In the Thousand-Year Blood War anime, it seemed as though Renji was powerful enough, especially with his new Bankai, to defeat Uryu, but the Quincy was just too durable, resulting in yet another defeat for Renji.

1

Ichigo Kurosaki

Number Of Losses: 11

  • Manga Debut: Volume 1, Chapter 1
  • Anime Debut: Episode 1

As the main protagonist of the series, Ichigo has been engaged in his fair share of tough battles, and though he has a pretty good win record, he’s also been bested plenty of times. Ichigo suffered a miserable defeat at the hands of Byakuya and Renji early on in the series, though he would maintain a pretty steady win record throughout the Soul Society arc. That is until he was embarrassed by Grimmjow not long after.

Despite his training with the Royal Guard, Ichigo would still be taken down by a handful of opponents in the final arc, including Yhwach multiple times and even by the mysterious Schutzstaffel known as Askin. Despite that, though, Ichigo has proven time and time again that he’s capable of pulling a victory out of the bag when the stakes are high enough, which he usually achieves by turning into one of his immensely powerful forms.
