Activision has been adding new game modes to the Call of Duty franchise since the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Over the years, modes like Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Infection, and Prop Hunt have been added to the many Call of Duty games released since. Black Ops 6 is in the middle of Season 1, and Treyarch continues to add new content to the game as it unfolds. As the game has seen reduced player numbers since the early days after it launched, introducing fresh content could help Black Ops 6 retain the remaining gamers. One thing that may help draw some lapsed players back is the return of fan-favorite game mode Gunfight.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Directed Mode Has Been Huge for Zombies
Activision confirms that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Directed mode has been a notable success for the Zombies community as a whole.
Reddit user FishStixxxxxxx recently shared a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 screen displaying Gunfight as a Featured game mode. The image shows a Gunfight match on Warhead that’s about to begin. Gunfight is a multiplayer mode in which two teams of one or two players compete in round-based matches with randomized loadouts. The lack of custom Black Ops 6 loadouts enables Gunfight to be a more competitive setting where friends can take their rivalries to decide who’s the better player. Since the game mode was introduced with Modern Warfare (2019), it has drawn a large segment of the overall Call of Duty player base that prefers smaller matches.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Gunfight is a Fan-Favorite One
Many Reddit users responded to FishStixxxxxxx’s post with enthusiasm for the return of the mode. Among the celebratory comments were people calling for other game modes like Demolition, Gun Game, and Ground War to come back. While some previous Call of Duty games have dedicated specific maps to Gunfight, Warhead’s inclusion suggests that there may be some overlap with locations players are already familiar with. As Black Ops 6 prominently features smaller maps, others like Babylon, Stakeout, Subsonic, and Nuketown may also be included in its rotation. Because there are some bigger maps in the Multiplayer selection, places like Lowtown, Skyline, Vault, and Vorkuta could be exempt from Gunfight.
As Gunfight allows two to four players to compete in a match together, full groups may not have to deal with the game’s skill-based matchmaking system. Because Treyarch continues to update Black Ops 6, even more popular game modes may be introduced in the future.
