Squid Game Season 2 is another hit on Netflix. Among the new discussions following the second season’s release is the casting of one of its masked guards.

Squid Game features diverse characters, including the 456 players who join the deadly tournament for a cash prize, the masked guards distinguished by symbols on their masks — a circle for those handling menial tasks, a triangle for armed enforcers and a square for managers overseeing operation — and the Front Man who wears a black mask and gives instructions to the masked guards. Like the players, there are multiple guards in the series and fans are eager to know the identity of Guard #44 after learning it was reportedly portrayed by a popular streamer and YouTuber.

Squid Game Could Be Removed From Netflix In One Country

Squid Game Season 2 received an intense backlash in one of South Korea’s neighboring countries.

Kai Cenat, an American online streamer, YouTuber and influencer, addressed the rumors that he was part of Squid Game Season 2. The popular personality confirmed his casting in the hit Korean survival game TV series during a streaming session with his fans. “Wait, I thought I told y’all,” Cenat said while talking to his audience online. He also added some details about his character and seemingly teased that he was still alive and could return for Season 3. “Wait, y’all didn’t know? Wait, I thought I told y’all. Yes, n****, I was Guard #44, I was [the] n**** [that] was [getting] dumped over the steps. I did not get shot.” Cenat’s statement received several responses, with many joking that he was probably the short guard. Some joked that they had to rewatch the series because they didn’t notice him.

The rumor about Cenat’s casting as Guard 44 started after a video on TikTok went viral. The clip shows the search result from Google for “Squid Game cast,” and it surprisingly included him as Guard 44, along with Gong Woo as The Recruiter and Jo Yu-ri, who portrays Player 222 Kim Jun-hee. However, one has to note that the guards in the game are not numbered explicitly like the players. They are distinguished by the shapes that appear on their masks. However, Season 2 features Guard 11 Kang No-eul (Park Gyu-young), a gunner in the red light, green light game. She is a North Korean defector and a former soldier who joins the game to earn money so she can be reunited with her daughter.

Cenat’s reaction to his rumored casting in Squid Game Season 2 was more likely him trolling his fans. First, the Internet personality loves Squid Game and has been playing it on Roblox. There are tons of videos of Cenat playing the different games featured in the series on social media. So, the video featuring him as among the cast in the second season may have been doctored because if one searches for it now, the results don’t show the same. Second, although Squid Game Season 2 featured Guard 11, there’s no sighting of Guard 44. The character wasn’t mentioned or explicitly shown.

Third, Squid Game was filmed in South Korea, and the series did not feature Western celebrities like Cenat. Also, it doesn’t make sense for Cenat to fly to the Asian country to film for the series and not be shown at all. Guard 11 has been heavily featured. Gyu-young has removed her masks several times. It was the first time the show gave the viewers the backstory of the guards. If Cenat were among the guards, his face would likely be shown. So, he was likely only joking when he claimed to play Guard 44 in the series.

Squid Game Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
