Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Promises New Spin On Classic Faces

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Promises New Spin On Classic Faces

Summary

  • Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man series will have a unique animation style.
  • The stories will be ones that are slightly different but are familiar to viewers and longtime Spider-Man fans.
  • There will be a focus on villains that are also familiar but have a new look and a new spin.

With Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man about to hit Disney+ in short order, head writer Jeff Trammell recently delved into its wide range of characters while Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man executive producer Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt touched upon some new story details for the animated series that will once again follow a teenaged Peter Parker as he navigates life as a superhero as well as a student.

Parker will once again lead a double life and, unsurprisingly, will begin the tale as a young teen. While this show will be part of the MCU, it won’t be considered canon so, it’s likely more a story about the multiverse with a Parker that exists alongside Tom Holland’s older and now wiser Spider-Man. The show will stand out among other programs like this due to a rather unique animation art style.

New Spin On Classic Villains Coming In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Speaking to the Walt Disney Company’s official website, Trammell touched on the story points for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man saying that ‘We have the privilege of following the movies and shows, so we pay homage to them as well as the comics. We build on things we’ve seen before but present them in new ways. We use those expectations to our advantage and turn things away from where you might expect. I’m excited for people to see new twists on classic characters, and I’m also excited to introduce characters that aren’t normally featured in Spider-Man stories.”

Trammell went on to shed some light on several of the villains that will show up for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, saying that viewers are “going to see some familiar faces,” The writer said that viewers will get to see multiple faces of The Chameleon and other villains as well. “You’re also going to see Scorpion, as well as a few characters who may seem new, like Speed Demon or Butane.”

The writer made it clear that he’s not going to divulge all the baddies that will appear on the Disney+ series. “We have a huge rogues gallery to play with, and so we’re looking forward to putting some of them in the forefront.”

The comments about the enemies that will appear in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are inline with previous comments about the plot and the story that will be shown off on the streaming series. The title of the show alone makes it clear that this isn’t a story that’s going to have Peter Parker leaving the planet, or fighting invading aliens. Instead, the plot and the battles will all be focused on the neighborhood that Parker and his friends live in. That is after all, how the show got its name and how it will set itself apart from the Tom Holland Spider-Man who fought Thanos and saved the world and accidentally traveled into outerspace as one of his first missions as a member of the Avengers. The writers believe that going this route means that fans will get to see parts of the Spider-Man story that they recognize and can feel nostalgic about.
