The First Descendant update adds Ines Raya and powerful new weapon upgrades

The First Descendant update 1.2.4 is here, bringing a wealth of additions to Nexon’s free Steam looter shooter. Whether you’re already playing The First Descendant Season 2 or not, this midseason update is a great time to return to action, packing in plenty of additional content to put your top builds to the test; another playable character; and a way to further upgrade some of the game’s strongest weapons.

The First Descendant update 1.2.4 is the long-anticipated midseason patch for the second season of the free Steam game. The most obvious highlight is the introduction of new Descendant Ines Raya. She’s a powerful lightning user that can place down coils and thunder snares, sending charges of electricity through multiple enemies. She can also boost her stats and skill by stacking max MP. You’ll find the blueprints and materials for her by taking on the hard mode of the Void Vessel.

The new mission type, Void Erosion Purge, is designed to be especially challenging multiplayer content that requires well-geared, coordinated parties. It features 20 stages of increasing difficulty, and you’ll have to finish each stage within a 10-minute time frame in order to gain the maximum rewards. Success will net you items for a powerful new upgrade system called Weapon Core Unlock.

Designed to further enhance the power of your favorite Ultimate Weapons, Weapon Core Unlock lets you slot five different upgrades based on set categories such as their firepower, elemental attributes, precision, and so on. A number of Ultimate Weapons have also had basic elemental damage added to them as standard, giving you even more ways to experiment.

Along with Void Erosion Purge, you’ll be able to earn materials through the Void Intercept Battle (Abyss). This has also been updated with the patch, and you’ll now have to face off against the Defiler, which brings toxic damage to the field but is vulnerable to electricity, making them a perfect test for your Ines build.

Beyond that, expect a range of new cosmetic items and a few balance changes. Most notably, Valby gets quite a few tweaks – she’ll now recover MP constantly while on water, and her mobility has been improved. Bubble Bullet’s range has been increased, and the radius of the explosion grows with each bounce. Elsewhere, Jayber’s Multi-Purpose Gun now deals blast damage around the impact point, and Luna gets some fairly notable reductions to her skill cooldowns.

The First Descendant patch 1.2.4 is out now. You can play the game for free on Steam. Make sure to read through the full patch notes courtesy of Nexon if you want to check specific details of all the changes.
