What Happened in Skeleton Crew?

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew focuses on the story of a new young group of heroes: Wim (Ravi Cabot-Cobyers), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), KB (Kyriana Kratter), and Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong). The group of four starts an adventure after stealing a crashed ship and exiting their planet of At Attin. However, their fortunes quickly change after they meet a pirate named Jod (Jude Law).

Initially, Jod helps the children as they attempt to find the coordinates of their carefully hidden planet. This adventure takes them around the universe, where they uncover the secrets of the notorious pirate, Captain Rennod. This leads Jod to learn that At Attin is home to an Old Republic mint full of credits, and his true intentions become clear as he turns on the children and plans to raid their planet for its loot.

How Did Star Wars: Skeleton Crew End?

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew ends with a climactic confrontation on At Attin. After successfully infiltrating the protective barrier of the planet, the children are reunited with their parents, but Jod holds them hostage, posing as an Emissary, and demanding to see the planet’s supervisor. Fara and Fern take Jod to the supervisor who turns out to be a large AI droid. When Fern reveals Jod’s deception to the Supervisor the pirate wastes no time in putting his lightsaber through its robotic brain, eliminating all the droids on the planet. With the droids down, Wim, Neel, KB, and Wim’s father, Wendle, race to the Supervisor’s tower on speeder bikes. At the same time, Fara agrees to lower the barrier to allow Jod’s pirate crew to enter the planet. The kids arrive to stop Jod and they get into a confrontation, with Wim and Fern attempting to trick him, while they buy time for Wendle to release the restraints on the Onyx Cinder, which KB plans to fly.

As fights begin to erupt with the pirates around At Attin, KB makes an emergency call to Kh’ymm for help, who promises to send New Republic fighters their way. KB’s ship is hit by one and she crash lands on At Attin. Things are not looking good for the group and the New Republic forces can’t enter the planet with the barrier up, so Wim and Fern attempt to get around Jod to pull a lever that will destroy it. Using his force powers to stop them Jod reveals some more information about his backstory, revealing he grew up with nothing until he was taken in by a female Jedi. The Jedi managed to teach him some skills until she was hunted down during Order 66 and killed, leaving Jod to grow up alone and jaded about the world.

The group gets into a struggle to destroy the barrier. Wendle and Fern reluctantly decide to help and with their assistance, they destroy the barrier around At Attin. The New Republic sends a fleet of X-Wings who fight off the pirates in an exciting aerial assault. Jod is left alive but retreats along with the rest of the pirates. With the threat neutralized, the group go to the site of the Onyx Cinder’s crash landing where they find KB and SM-33 both alive. Things in Skeleton Crew end positively for the group as At Attin is left without its protective barrier, but Wim is seen looking hopefully at the fleet of New Republic fighters, knowing they have allies outside that will help them.

Will There Be Another Season of Skeleton Crew?

The ending of Skeleton Crew wraps things up neatly for the Star Wars show. While there are lingering plot threads around Jod’s whereabouts and the future of At Attin, there’s nothing too pressing that needs to be answered in another season. Skeleton Crew was only intended to be a limited series, meaning Disney has not needed to renew or cancel it.

As mentioned, the show has been received positively by fans but has suffered from low viewership numbers making a second season of the show unlikely. Several recent Star Wars shows have suffered short-lived fates, with The Acolyte being canceled despite leaving things open for another season, and Andor coming to an end after only two seasons. This doesn’t mean the characters from Skeleton Crew can’t appear elsewhere in the Star Wars universe, but until Disney decides otherwise, the series will be left at just one season.
