One reason the Rainbow Six game series has been one of the most successful tactical first-person shooters is that it stays true to its tactical-style nature. So, while franchises like Battlefield or Call of Duty have slowly diverted to arcade-style gameplay, Rainbow Six has kept its original tactical roots.

And Rainbow Six Siege is the go-to multiplayer tactical shooter since it allows players to play out various scenarios that require careful planning and execution. Furthermore, players can choose over 60 operators, each with a unique set of skills and gadgets. The latest Operator released is Solis, a powerful Defender with a few tricks up its sleeves.
Updated on January 16, 2025, by Mehrdad Khayyat: With the huge nerf applied to Solis not long ago, the operator now features a far lower pick rate among defenders, though it doesn’t mean Solis cannot be a useful operator anymore.
In fact, she is still quite beneficial for players who want to do a run-out or those who favor vertical play. However, playing Solis is no longer as straightforward as before, and players must make strategic choices and use the available resources wisely.
Solis Ability Explained
Solis is a Defender Operator who specializes in detecting electronic devices, all thanks to her SPEC-IO Electro-Sensor Helmet. When Solis is using her ability, she doesn’t have access to her weapons anymore, similar to Pulse when he uses the Heartbeat Sensor.
Players can think of Solis as a Defender version of IQ, but there are some significant differences. The detection range for Solis is far smaller than that of IQ, but it comes with the ability to ping the location of electronics for the entire team. Moreover, Solis is not able to guess the type of electronic detected until she pings it. And here comes the twist, because the ping ability has a relatively long cooldown before it can be used again, and it only has three charges overall.
There is another let-down for Solis too. When she is using her device and sees drones, the attacker opponent who controls the drone receives a warning on their screen, that Solis is watching the drone. So, this means Solis is somewhere close to the drone and gives off her whereabouts.

Solis Loadout
Solis’ loadout consists of CQC weapons, like the P90 Submachine Gun and ITA-12 shotgun as primary guns and an SMG-11 Machine Pistol as secondary weapon. Solis also has a Bulletproof Camera that can be mounted on any surface to provide surveillance. Unfortunately, the Bulletproof Camera can be hacked/disabled, so players will want to place it in a hidden area. Players can also equip a Proximity Alarm to let them know where the enemies are coming from.
Players who are good at controlling the SMG-11 recoil are highly recommended to use the shotgun as their primary weapon, as it allows for more flexible combat options overall.
How To Play Solis Effectively
Before anything, Solis excels at gathering intel. It’s nice to always have her as a roamer. At the very least, Solis can lurk around the doors and windows to find out which side the enemies are pushing from. This early presence near entry points, lets Solis know of the opponent’s whereabouts without even using the ability, and knowing most attackers like to drone before entering, she can use the ability to find out where the droning operator is located, as using a mobile for droning gives off the operator’s location. Even if they use a claymore behind the window, Solis can still deal with that and get the kill.
When it comes to vertical play, if Solis is supposed to catch the planter, then she must save at least one ping for the late round to detect the exact location of the defuser. For this, the player is strongly recommended to know the vertical whereabouts of default plant spots and lurk around that area at the lower level.
Despite all the nerfs, Solis is still a good operator for run-outs, though losing the impact grenades makes it impossible for her to deal with more than one claymore when it comes to surprise run-outs.
