The final few months of 2024 were busy ones for PlayStation hardware as the rollout of its 30th-anniversary collection was joined by the release of the PS5 Pro and Helldivers 2 getting its own DualSense. PlayStation has kept that ball rolling to kick off 2025 via the reveal of new additions to its Midnight Black collection, and pre-orders for all of those items begin today.
The DualSense and PS5 covers have been available in black for a while. However, that collection has now grown significantly as joining it is a Midnight Black DualSense Edge, PlayStation Portal, Plulse Explore Earbuds, and Pulse Elite Headset. This will be the first time the earbuds and the headset have been available in any color besides the standard PS5 white.

Much like quite a few of the PS5 accessories released towards the end of 2024, it’s highly like pre-orders for some, if not all of the items going live today will sell out pretty quickly. The Portal, in particular, was in high demand for the bulk of its first year since being released at the end of 2023. While the white model is finally readily available, the grey anniversary edition is sold out and will likely stay that way forever.

The Midnight Black earbuds might also sell out pretty quickly if the popularity of the white version of the accessory is anything to go by. Despite costing $199.99, it was very hard to find the earbuds in stock in the months after their release. Even though the DualSense Edge and the Pulse Elite headset will likely rank third and fourth in the popularity rankings, if you’ve got your eye on their Midnight Black versions, I’d pick up pre-orders for them today if you can.

Midnight Black PlayStation Portal
The PlayStation Portal is a handheld companion to Sony’s PlayStation 5 console. Based around the features of a DualSense controller and Remote Play, it features an eight-inch LCD screen at 1080p resolution capable of 60fps, a headphone jack for wired audio.

Midnight Black DualSense Edge
The PlayStation DualSense Edge is a highly customizable pro controller designed for use with the PS5 console, featuring modular stick caps, fully remappable inputs, and custom profiles.
While the chaos that will likely ensue when pre-orders go live at 10 am EST on PlayStation Direct is annoying, the good news is all four new additions to PlayStation’s Midnight Black collection will cost the same as their base white equivalents. That’s $199.99 each for the Portal, the Pulse Earbuds, and the DualSense Edge, and $149.99 for the Pulse Elite headset. Pre-orders also appear to have gone live early at Target and Amazon and are available now through the links in the boxes above and below.
The new Midnight Black items will go up for pre-order at different times in different parts of the world. They will be available at 10 am GMT in the UK, for example. It will be 10 am local time in most parts of the world, but that’s not guaranteed.

PlayStation’s first set of earbuds are the Pulse Explore Wireless earbuds. Coming with a carry case and equipped with AI-enhanced noise rejection technology, the earbuds are also equipped with mics so you can communicate with other people while playing online.

Midnight Pulse Elite Headset
The Pulse Elite Headset fully utilizes any games that make the most of the PS5’s 3D audio, and it also boats AI-enhanced noise rejection technology to drown out the majority of background noise. It also comes with a fully retractable mic.
Unless PlayStation has even more accessories or console models to reveal soon, its season of new hardware might be about to come to an end just in time for the video game release calendar to kick back into gear after the holidays. There’s still the Chroma Teal DualSense and PS5 cover to be released on January 23, 2025, and pre-orders are still available for the Helldivers 2 DualSense releasing on February 6, 2025.
