Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii's Map Won't Be Restricted

Summary

  • Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios chief producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto has revealed that all of Honolulu will be explorable in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza.
  • Kiryu was restricted to just a small section of Yokohama in The Man Who Erased His Name, but Sakamoto has confirmed that Majima won’t have these restrictions.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is a little over a month away, and while we’ve had plenty of gameplay showcases and hints about the game’s potential story, we still don’t know that much about where we’ll actually get to go with Majima. We know that a new area called Madlantis will be explorable, but due to being a smaller title, you had to wonder whether Majima had access to all of Honolulu.

Fans of the series will remember that Like A Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name didn’t give Kiryu the free run of Yokohama, instead choosing to set the game primarily in Sotenbori and have Kiryu access only a small sliver of the location in which Yakuza: Like A Dragon was set. Thankfully, it seems as though Majima won’t have to deal with similar restrictions.

In a recent group Q&A with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios chief producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto (which TheGamer attended), he assured us that Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will feature the whole of Honolulu when it launches next month, and that anywhere that Ichiban went during Infinite Wealth, Majima can also go.

“You can play through all the [Hawaii] locations that you saw in Infinite Wealth.”

Of course, don’t go expecting to be able to do everything that Ichiban did. We already know that Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is a brawler, meaning it’s already a very different game, and more in-depth minigames like Dokidoki Island and the whole Sujimon system won’t be implemented since it’s a smaller title. Naval combat makes up for that though, surely?

It’s nice to know that the game won’t be restricted like in previous games though, and you should be able to go visit any locations you want to, maybe for a quick selfie or bite to eat. If you want to know more about what you can actually get up to in the game, you can read our preview by Meg Pellicio right here.
