Huge news for Nintendo and console gamers all over as the Switch 2 has officially been announced. The followup to Nintendo’s iconic Switch console was revealed by special trailer today (Jan. 16), with the reveal also stating that the Switch 2 will be available this year (2025).
Unveiling a sleeker, all-black design, a larger screen, and presumably higher specs than its predecessor, the original Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2 looks to shake up the console market at a time where many console fans are feeling frustrated by a lack of 60fps gaming and exclusivity.

- The Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible Switch games, however some games might not be backward compatible

The Nintendo Switch – A Legacy of Greatness
The Nintendo Switch is the best selling console of the current generation, having sold almost 150 million units worldwide. The third most sold game console of all time, the Switch revitalised a struggling Nintendo’s console hopes following the failure of the Wii-U with its hybrid handheld and TV plug-in compatibility.
With touch screen tablet capability, conventional Nintendo controller and joycon support, and the ability to take your games on the go, the Nintendo Switch was truely a game change when it released in 2017. Now, just under seven years later (an average time for a console generation) this new console looks set to once again push the envelope for Nintendo. With huge names like Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, and others able to be leveraged by the company, expect some true greatness to come out of the Switch 2.
