Will the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal happen today? That’s the question on everybody’s mind as rampant rumor and speculation has driven into overdrive this week. We know for certain that the ‘Switch successor’ (as Nintendo likes to call it) is set to be shown to the world before March 2025, but there are signs that the system itself will be given a surprise showcase on January 16.

Nintendo is yet to offer any insight into its imminent reveal plans. While the company has typically signalled that a Nintendo Direct is incoming some 24 hours out, there’s been no external signs of an incoming showcase. Still, the Switch 2 countdown to reveal has begun in earnest, following corroborating reports from across the video game industry this week that the hardware will be shown to the public today – with a dedicated software showcase to come at a later date.

The Switch 2 announcement has been a long time coming. We saw a trickle of leaks last year, detailing potential specs and technical improvements, although there’s been a flood of Switch 2 news ever since CES – we’ve seen mock-ups of the new system through third-party accessory manufacturers, and have even gotten some insight into the hardware innovations Nintendo is striving to deliver.

Still, with that all in mind we know that there’s a lot of you who are desperate to get some firm information. That’s why we’ll be tracking all the latest on the Switch 2 right here, regardless of what happens.
