What Is The Latest X-Men Tease?
The latest tease for the X-Men has occurred in the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. The movie hasn’t even been released yet, but the teases for expanding the lore of X-Men and potential connections to the current characters prove that the studio is no longer holding anything back on this front. Adamantium is mentioned within the trailer, an indestructible metal used in Wolverine’s skeleton, claws, and Captain America’s shield. The fact that this is now openly being discussed showcases that Marvel could be hinting at another Wolverine being created within the current timeline that isn’t played by Hugh Jackman at all.
Why Marvel Is Rushing The Group’s Arrival
Marvel is trying to give subtle teases as to the fact mutants do exist among the current characters and timelines that are taking place, which is likely being done to build up the excitement for when they eventually do appear. However, the latest one feels rushed, with adamantium being introduced potentially pushing the X-Men into the MCU far sooner than people first imagined.
Various X-Men stars from the Fox era have already appeared, whether it’s Professor X, Wolverine, Gambit, or Beast, with Marvel tapping into the multiverse to heavily push the characters. It has led to a rumor that those characters will all be involved in the upcoming Avengers movies before the eventual debut of the new X-Men lineup, which would be an interesting twist. It would lead to the group being pushed without the complete lineup for the long-term future being present, and that feels like a mistake.
Having all these mutant characters show up or throwing in hints and lines about mutants is an interesting idea to build excitement. But having all the characters from the old era of X-Men appear makes it feel like Marvel is rushing to their arrival. There’s an element of nostalgia for those who watched the previous movies, but it doesn’t build to the future in the manner that it should. There’s no thrill or excitement about when the new actors who Marvel will hire take on the roles because they have already been appearing and showcasing the character’s powers via the older versions. Marvel would be better off waiting to make a grand reveal further down the line that would instantly make a huge splash in the entertainment world.
How Should They Be Introduced?
There is no perfect way to introduce as many characters as would be needed to do X-Men justice, but the possibility of cramming them in during Avengers: Doomsday seems like the wrong call. That movie is already going to be stacked, and even though it’s rumored that Deadpool, Wolverine, and Gambit are all going to be involved, that doesn’t mean the entire group should appear and start causing havoc. Marvel needs to ensure that the group is given the perfect limelight to ensure that they will be treated seriously compared to the Avengers, not alongside them.
Perhaps at the end of Avengers: Secret Wars, having X-Men appear to confront the Avengers could be a unique idea. It would create a stunning visual and set up a huge crossover movie, which everyone eventually wants to see. However, the best way to bring them in is to simply announce an official X-Men movie and do it then. That way, they’re not getting lost in the shuffle with other established superheroes, and it becomes a tentpole event that Marvel can build to with subtle teases that don’t go over the top.
The first X-Men movie doesn’t necessarily have to be an origins film either, as the majority of moviegoers are well-versed in the group and what they bring to the table at this stage. However, if that’s the direction Marvel needs to go in, that would be acceptable, too. This would ensure that Marvel takes its time with these characters, giving the writing team several years to create a compelling story that would build up the excitement around the X-Men. It would also allow the hype to begin, and speculation over who is going to be involved and what the story would be to start, and that would provide the best results.
