If LEGO Sports Games Are Still a Focus, One Sport is Overdue Some Love

If LEGO Sports Games Are Still a Focus, One Sport is Overdue Some Love

LEGO has made a massive name for itself outside the popular building blocks, and one of its most notable side ventures has been video games. From Star Wars adaptations to its more recent collaborations with Fortnite, LEGO has boasted impressive longevity in the gaming sphere. Despite these successes, there is one area where LEGO has struggled with its video games; sports.

Granted, there have been LEGO sports games in the past. 2002’s LEGO Soccer Mania and 2023’s LEGO 2K Drive have brought some sports-related games to life, but the company’s once recent plans to make more titles in the genre seem to have fizzled out. There were once reports that the company was poised to release the unannounced LEGO 2K Goooal!, but that project has yet to come to fruition. With fear that LEGO 2K Goooal! has been axed, the fate of LEGO’s athletic pursuits is up in the air. However, the company could find the perfect partnership with one particular sport: pro wrestling.

One Marvel Superhero Deserves the LEGO Batman Treatment

LEGO Batman was a love letter to all things Caped Crusader, and there’s one Marvel superhero who still deserves the same treatment.

LEGO and the WWE Could Be a Match Made in Heaven

A Treasure Trove of High-Profile Stars

WWE is absolutely massive, and it continues to bring beloved athletes huge success. Since the company’s founding, WWE has been through a variety of eras that make a LEGO game bound to have a massive character roster. From Mick Foley and Ric Flair to The Rock and John Cena, the limits are seemingly endless with the stars LEGO could have at its disposal. Plus, names like Foley have played several characters that could all be selectable in-game, adding to the variety of minifigures on offer. The WWE has a long history of its own video game adaptations, and joining forces with LEGO could be just the right franchise needed to make the latter’s sports aspirations take off.

LEGO’s most recent game release is LEGO Horizon Adventures, based on the Horizon franchise.

Bringing LEGO’s Signature Humor to Greater Heights

Through its game and movie adaptations, LEGO has adopted a signature brand of clever humor that would work wonders in a WWE setting. The over-the-top antics of the wrestling company would blend seamlessly with LEGO’s sense of humor, which presents the perfect ingredients for a successful project.

Some franchises work better with LEGO’s comedic timing than others, and WWE is an option that seems effortless. Of course, this could simply be wishful thinking, but such a collaboration never happening would feel like a huge missed opportunity. Also, with LEGO’s 2K partnership, it makes such a crossover that much easier. The WWE 2K series has led modern wrestling games, meaning there are likely fewer hurdles to clear before agreeing to such a deal. Not only would a game like this benefit from a classic and nostalgic roster, but WWE continues to produce fresh stars.

Modern WWE Wrestlers Fit For a LEGO Game

  • Roman Reigns
  • Rhea Ripley
  • Cody Rhodes
  • Seth Rollins
  • Liv Morgan
  • CM Punk
  • Gunther
  • Becky Lynch
  • Nia Jax

The above list is only scratching the surface, and that’s just for the WWE’s modern lineup. The world’s biggest wrestlers could be ready to go head-to-head in a hilariously fun-loving LEGO setting. Though LEGO’s sports crossovers don’t seem to be taking off as intended, things could change, especially if LEGO finds the right partner from the world of sports.

LEGO’s latest collaboration with Fortnite is the in-game mode LEGO Brick Life, a multiplayer open-world life sim.

Right now, there is nothing suggesting this kind of LEGO game will ever happen, but both it and the WWE could be missing a huge chance at bumping up both of their respective brands with gamers. As WWE’s roster continues to grow, there will be even more options for LEGO to consider for the hypothetical game’s roster. Though a LEGO and WWE game remains a pipe dream, fans can always hope for the two companies to realize such a golden opportunity.
