How To Play As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

How To Play As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Dynasty Warriors: Origins will have you mostly play as the Wanderer in his quest to bring peace to the land. This will offer a lot of choices in the main story, and no matter what choices you make, you’ll often have companions follow you into battle.

Companions will stay by your side and follow you around the battlefield, though you can also occasionally take control of them. Companions are incredibly powerful, and playing as they will usually be a lot more effective than playing as the Wanderer with his upgrades; here’s how to switch characters.

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

You can only choose to switch to play as your companion as long as it is a fight where you have a companion with you. During the war council before a battle, the final option in the menu will be your companion, and you can choose to go alone if you want but you can’t switch to any companions. Once the battle begins you’ll see your companion’s health bar in the bottom right of the screen right above your own.

Right below their health bar will be a blue bar, much like your own Musou bar. This bar will fill up as you fight, with more energy earned by:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodging
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Using Weapon Arts

Just about any action in combat increases this bar in some way, though much slower.

Once the blue bar for your companion completely fills us, the “Change Character” button will appear next to the bar. Press and hold down the button for about a second to switch characters. This is done with the View Button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

You should only switch to another character in the middle of a big fight, as companions are incredibly powerful and you’ll only be in control of them for about a minute. The blue bar that filled up to switch to them will slowly drain indicating how much time you have left. Your new character will already have full Bravery and a list of combat arts to try out that are all incredibly effective.

Switching into a new character will also have them jump into the fray with a large attack, so be sure to aim at an enemy when you switch. Your companion will also have their own Musou bar and health bar, which is also already filled up and can activate that character’s own special attack to devastate your enemies.
