Summary
- Fortnite OG’s lobbies have reportedly been accidentally filled with bots for the past few days.
- As many as 90 players per match have supposedly been bots thanks to a bug introduced via this week’s update.
- Epic has remedied the problem so hopefully there will be more humans than bots in your lobbies moving forward.
Epic Games brought back Fortnite‘s original map in 2023, a decision that proved to be so popular that people returned to the game in their droves and then complained vociferously when it left again. Not wanting to make the same mistake again, Epic brought back Fortnite OG for good at the end of 2024. However, it hasn’t quite been the authentic experience you might have expected for the past few days since its lobbies have been filled with bots.
Fortnite leaker Shiina noted on Wednesday that the OG lobbies were being filled with as many as 90 bots. That means you might have been playing with as few as nine real people while the rest of the island will have been crawling with bots masquerading as players. If the game has felt a little easier since the update, this might explain why.

Shiina has provided a second update claiming Epic reached out to them to explain what happened so they could let their followers know the problem has been fixed. The Fortnite studio claimed filling OG’s lobbies with bots was a mistake brought about by this week’s 33.20 update. The update went live on Tuesday so OG mode has presumably been filled with bots since then.

Just You, Nine Humans, And A Bunch Of Bots
Before you rush to play some Fortnite, pick up some easy Victory Royales, and rack up your XP, Epic has also clarified to Shiina that whatever the issue was, it has already been fixed. While there will still be a bot or two lurking in your Fortnite matches, there won’t be as many as 90. The goal of bots is to keep lobbies full and to keep new and struggling players playing, although it’s unclear how exactly Epic and other studios calculate how many bots should be in each match and when they should appear.
Injecting a few bots into live service games has become the norm. It’s already clear they’re being used in Marvel Rivals, seemingly being placed into quickplay matches if players are on a losing streak. Rivals players aren’t all that pleased about it, but they have discovered Invisible Woman’s passive can confuse them into standing still and doing nothing.
Fortnite’s latest update didn’t just bring a bug with it. It’s also seemingly adding a mythic to the game tomorrow that will let players turn into a full-size Godzilla. It also kicked off a new season of Fortnite Festival that has added virtual popstar Hatsune Miku to the rhythm game.
Starting life as a tower defense game, Fortnite has become one of the biggest video games out there. Its battle royale mode dominates popular culture, featuring concerts by megastar musicians and crossovers with just about every brand imaginable, from Marvel to the NFL.
