Despite the infamous failure of its spiritual successor, Skull and Bones, the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake is going to be the talk of the town when it is released. It’s still a long way out, but Assassin’s Creed fans have long been waiting for this title. This particular game is widely considered the best the franchise. The latest few games haven’t been as well-received, so the community is anxious for a return to form for Ubisoft and the franchise.
The upcoming remake is poised to kill two birds with one stone by giving players another good game and bringing back a fan favorite. With that in mind, some new information just dropped on it, so here’s what we know so far.

What We Know About Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake
A lot of this information is speculative, but the shape of the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake is beginning to take shape. It is expected to arrive in November 2025. This fits with a lot of major game releases. Studios and developers like to take advantage of the upcoming holiday season, and they’ll often schedule their biggest games for late fall. This seems to be what Ubisoft is going for.
However, this date was revealed before the next new Assassin’s Creed game, Shadows, was delayed for a second time. There’s no telling when it’s actually going to come out. As a result, the Black Flag remake could be delayed as well.
The remake is reportedly being rebuilt with Ubisoft’s Anvil Engine. Several Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia games have used this engine. So have Skull and Bones, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Immortal Fenyx Rising, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The upcoming Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake has used this engine as well.
New reports suggest that the AC Black Flag remake won’t just be a visual upgrade. Instead of just updating graphics to modern standards, Ubisoft is apparently adding gameplay mechanics and tweaking other aspects of the game itself. Some remakes and remasters skip those steps, but this one will not.
The game hasn’t officially been confirmed by Ubisoft, but the mounting evidence suggests that it is on the way. It may not be officially announced for a while since Ubisoft might not want to step on Shadows’ toes. However, if Shadows continues to be delayed while the Black Flag remake is ready, they could pivot to that soon.
