The Point Guard has been one of the most important positions in basketball for a long time, and NBA 2K25 continues this tradition. Serving, largely, as the player who commands the team on offense, a point guard’s job is to bring the ball up the court, usually, set up the play the team wants to run, and then make sure that play is executed. While they are also asked to shoot the ball at a decent clip, their role is largely to lead and make sure the offense runs as it needs to.

Why Fans Are Already Upset With NBA 2K25
NBA 2K25 listing pre-order sales before an official trailer or noteworthy information has NBA fans losing faith in the game.
This is something that players can keep in mind as they start in MyCareer, where they will design their ideal player to be drafted into the league and climb the ranks of stardom. However, not every team is going to give people equal playing time, which is largely due to already having an All-Star in that position. This is why players should know which teams are going to be their best bet to have the spotlight as they begin their Point Guard journey through the NBA.

Chicago Bulls
A Team With Potential
- Lonzo Ball isn’t returning anytime soon
- Plenty of playing time available as a starter
- Takes pressure off of Zach Lavine
Chicago is a team that has been in limbo for a long time. At one point, they had a brief glimmer of hope when Lonzo Ball came to their team and established himself as an excellent point guard. However, Ball has missed a substantial number of seasons due to a knee injury and the team is missing some kind of playmaker to elevate the rest of the team.
While the team has relied a lot on Zach Lavine to be that player that elevates the rest, a true point guard could do them a lot of good. People may not be looking at a championship contender right away, but if a player can provide an excellent season that shows a possible path forward, that label will come in the near future.

Indiana Pacers
Their Best PG Is A Bench Player
- TJ McConnell is excellent off the bench
- Halliburton has regressed and shown inconsistency
- Still tons of talent on the team
The Pacers are an excellent team on paper, but with Tyrese Halliburton regressing into inconsistency, the team is looking for a stabilizing force on the roster. While they have TJ McConnell, he really works best coming off the bench to help lead the younger players.
As such, the Pacers could really use some help in the starting line-up to get players like Bennedict Mathurin and Pascal Siakam going. With that playmaking available, the Pacers could easily get back to the Eastern Conference Finals this season.

Houston Rockets
VanVleet Is Getting Old
- VanVleet is good, but he is getting old
- Lots of young potential on the team
- Need one more piece to become a real threat
The Houston Rockets are on the come-up in the wake of James Harden leaving for the Nets. With some excellent young talent on their roster, they need a good point guard to take them over the edge. Fred VanVleet has shown to get the job done, but he hasn’t necessarily excelled in the role either.
Getting a younger talent in that position can not only upgrade the team this season, but also set them up for success in the future. Continuing to develop chemistry could mean that the Rockets become a team to watch out for in the West.

New Orleans Pelicans
One Step Away From Dominance
- CJ McCollum is more an SG than a PG
- Easy to get dunks/alley-oops with Zion
- Possible contenders with the right playcalls
The Pelicans are right at that precipice of being a solid playoff team, as long as Zion Williamson can stay healthy. For the past few seasons, they have leaned on CJ McCollum to provide that playmaking role, and changing that could just be the push that they need to take it to the next level.
Players could slide into the role of point guard for the Pelicans rather easily, as the team is looking for a player to take that position of on-court commander. So far, the Pelicans just haven’t had anyone to lead the team down the court and set their teammates up. Bringing in a new point guard will allow McCollum to slide back into his natural shooting guard role where he only has to worry about shooting the ball when he gets the pass or cutting to the basket for an easy layup. It also can allow players to let Zion run full-steam for a monster alley-oop.

NBA 2K25: Biggest Improvements Over 2K24
With the recent release of NBA 2K25, many improvements over its predecessor are evident and most welcome. Here are the best ones.

Phoenix Suns
Three All-Stars In Need Of Playmaking
- The Suns have three players that can score whenever, so easy passes to make
- Truly one piece away from contending
- Triple shooting threat means plenty of space on the floor to pass
Having two players like Kevin Durant and Devin Booker doesn’t exactly scream a “team in need,” but ever since Chris Paul left the team, the Suns haven’t had a proper facilitator to take them to the next level. Sure, Devin Booker can serve that role efficiently, but he serves best as a Shooting Guard that can be ready to fire one off when his number is called.
Starting out with the Suns, players will have a good shot of getting that starting role much faster. The Suns have yet to show they can set up plays efficiently, and they need some help in that department, for sure. As long as they can set up a play, dissect a defense, and make sure that the ball gets to KD when it needs to, a new point guard can ascend the ranks very quickly.

Portland Trailblazers
In Desperate Need Of Playmaking
- Portland has some talent, but no playmaking
- No true point guards on the roster
- Looking to build for the future
Coming on to the Trailblazers is not going to bring players instant success; it is going to be a process to get the team to where they want to be. Getting an actual point guard is going to be one of the most important steps the team can take to start that process.
As it stands, there are no true point guards on that roster, which is a detriment in the current league. Portland needs someone who can bring the ball up the court and set the play up for others. Without that, they will continue to flounder.

San Antonio Spurs
Create A Dynasty With The League’s Newest Superstar
- Wembanyama has the paint locked down for you
- His athleticism means you can set him up easily
- Chris Paul will be a better bench player than a starter
With the Spurs signing Chris Paul this previous offseason, it may not seem like the Spurs are going to need a player to step into the point guard spot and help Victor Wembanyama take that next step. However, Paul is getting older and has lost a step. His role is best operated as the backup point guard which means an opening is going to emerge quicker than people might think.
That’s where players can step in and prove they belong in that spot with their excellent play. It may not be right at the start of the season, but after a handful of games, it’ll become pretty clear that a new, young point guard is needed to pair up with the French phenom that is taking over the league.

Utah Jazz
A Team Without Anyone To Make A Play
- Markkanen can shoot, but needs someone to set him up
- After Conley left, the Jazz haven’t had consistency at PG so the door is open
- Easy path to a starting role
Most contenders in the game are not going to have any prominent openings when starting in MyCareer, as they have solidified a solid starting five that has allowed them to get to this championship contention position. That’s why the Jazz are a great option for a new point guard coming into the NBA. They have a star in Lauri Markkanen and would love to add an excellent playmaker to go along with him.
Players should be prepared to not be making any massive waves in the league right away, but like it is with the Bulls, that contention could come shortly. It just takes some great play and patience, and good things will come.
