Those with older, lower-spec hardware should be able to fire up the new game.

To play the Arknights: Endfield beta that kicks off today, you’re not going to need the most powerful PC out there, even if you crank up the game’s settings. While you’re always going to fare better having one of the best graphics cards, an older card like the GTX 1060 will do the job for 1080p gaming. Listed below are the official system requirements noted for the Arknights: Endfield beta, so these could change for the full final game release.

The Arknights: Endfield minimum system requirements are very reasonable. To meet the game’s minimum specs, you’ll need at least an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB “or equivalent” card, which should mean a card such as the AMD Radeon RX 580 is up to the task. Meanwhile, on the CPU front, an Intel Core i5-9400F is all you’ll need. The game’s system requirements don’t mention a target resolution or frame rate for these specs but we would expect this hardware to get you at least 30fps at 1080p, with the game on low detail settings.

It’s good news, then, for owners of older PCs, with the GPU needed here being a mid-range option that’s eight years old – and still the 12th most used card by Steam users. The Intel CPU is a little newer but still a six year old chip, plus if you own an older 8000 series Intel chip, you should be able to upgrade to a 9000 series model without changing your motherboard.

Like its minimum requirements, the Arknights: Endfield recommended system requirements don’t list the resolution or frame rate expectation for the selected hardware, but if you’re looking to run at a higher resolution and/or frame rate, this is the hardware that the developer recommends.

The most notable change is a step up to an RTX 2060 graphics card “or equivalent,” which amounts to a card like the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. As a card that’s ‘only’ six years old, the Nvidia model is a clear step up from the minimum requirements. However, such cards are still readily available second hand for well under $200.

Likewise, the move up to an Intel Core i5-10700K CPU is relatively easy and affordable to accommodate. However, the move to 32GB of RAM is surprisingly high for a game that has relatively modest spec requirements overall and doesn’t involve cutting-edge graphics. Still, these days a 32GB kit can be had for well under $100.

Whether you’re running an older PC or not, one key area of your PC that you can’t scrimp on is storage. The Arknights: Endfield download size is at least 60GB, with developer Hypergryph confirming that an SSD is required.

The game may still work loading from a hard drive but to give yourself plenty of space and to avoid slow loading times, you may want to grab one of the best gaming SSD options anyway to boost your storage capacity and loading speed. A good option for this is the WD Black SN850X, which offers great performance at a reasonable cost as a modest PC upgrade.

Without a doubt, these system requirements are good news, on the whole, for gamers with older PCs or gaming laptops with lower specs, even though Hypergryph isn’t overly clear with what level of performance these specs will get you or whether higher graphics tiers will require much more powerful hardware.

Nonetheless, the barrier of entry for running this game at the lowest possible graphics presets is nice and low. For higher settings, the need to upgrade to 32GB of RAM and have 60GB of SSD storage may trip up a few gamers, but both are easy and cheap upgrades to make. For the SSD, the best external SSDs can also do the job, with load times as fast as internal SSDs.
