DreadOut: Act 0 Candle Puzzle Solution
Light All Three Candles
The first step towards solving this Act 0 puzzle is lighting all three of its candles. Indeed, fans of survival horror games will find that just one candle is lit the first time that they encounter the puzzle, and here is how to rectify the issue:
- Walk back through the graveyard. Two enemies will appear as players approach the far end.
- Get some distance from those enemies.
- Pull out the camera, point it at an enemy, and take a photo when the distortions appear.
- Reposition to avoid getting hit.
- Repeat Steps 3 & 4 until both enemies are defeated. Each one falls after being photographed five times.
Photograph the Candles
After dispatching the two foes in the graveyard, fans of horror games with female protagonists should return to the candles to find that all three are lit. Photographing those candles will cause their flames to go out temporarily, and the goal is now to extinguish all three simultaneously.
To do this, players should situate themselves just in front of the middle candle. Fans of indie horror games should then pull out their camera and find an angle where all three candles will be captured. Such an angle is depicted in the following image, and snapping a suitable photo will solve the Act 0 candle puzzle and trigger a short cinematic sequence.
To note, it can be a bit difficult to find a good angle for photographing the three candles. If a player is struggling to take a picture that puts out all three at once, they should reference these tips:
- If only the left and middle candles go out, players should move slightly to the right.
- If only the right and middle candles go out, players should move slightly to the left.
- If none of the candles go out, players should move closer to them.
An issue with photographing the candles can reportedly arise when playing DreadOut in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Fans of games like Fatal Frame indicate that they have circumvented this issue by setting the game’s resolution, and the resolution of their desktop when playing on PC, to a 16:9 aspect ratio.
