A New Mario Kart May Have Been Revealed In Switch 2 Trailer

Nintendo has seemingly revealed what looks like a brand-new Mario Kart game for the Switch 2 in the console’s trailer.

Near the end of the Switch 2’s reveal trailer, Mario Kart footage of Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Peach, and Toad driving through a desert track can be seen with a sign that says “Yoshi,” which looks to be some sort of restaurant or gas station.

While the trailer didn’t confirm whether this is an entirely original Mario Kart game as opposed to another expanded port of Mario Kart 8, there’s some new details that people have picked up on. It looks like Donkey Kong’s character model in this game was inspired by the character’s look in the Super Mario Bros. movie. Up to 24 racers can be included in a race as well.

Back in 2022, Mario Kart 9 was reportedly in development with some sort of new “twist” to the formula. More information will presumably be revealed during Nintendo’s Direct presentation on April 2. The Nintendo Switch never got its own numbered Mario Kart entry, just Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and some extra DLC.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch sometime this year. The console was just revealed today, January 16. It’s been confirmed to be backwards compatible with Switch games, and people will be able to go hands-on and try it starting in April.
