World of Warcraft has delayed the launch of the second Plunderstorm event in order to handle some unexpected problems. Though World of Warcraft still plans to launch Plunderstorm before the end of January 14, fans will have to wait a little longer than expected to enjoy the battle royale game mode once again.
Plunderstorm is a pirate-themed battle royale game mode World of Warcraft introduced during Dragonflight in 2024. Recently, it announced that Plunderstorm would be returning on January 14, 2025, featuring both the original and brand-new rewards for World of Warcraft players to collect.

Unfortunately, it seems World of Warcraft has encountered some problems while trying to roll out Plunderstorm once again. The originally scheduled six-hour maintenance for the game event was recently extended eight hours, with the servers planned to come up at 3 PM PST. However, according to a forum post by WoW community manager Kaivax during said extension, “unexpected issues” have delayed the launch of Plunderstorm by a little longer than anticipated. While World of Warcraft hopes to have Plunderstorm playable before January 14 is over, fans currently have no further estimation as to when that might be.

Luckily, World of Warcraft was able to bring its normal servers back online in the interim. Players who are eagerly waiting for Plunderstorm can freely log on and complete their Siren Isle weeklies, begin their second week of World of Warcraft’s Turbulent Timeways event, or any other activities in The War Within.
The second run of Plunderstorm in World of Warcraft adds a few new features, such as the Plunderstore and a game event interface that can seemingly be accessed while logged in to a character. It is possible these features were the cause of these unexpected issues, so hopefully, World of Warcraft can sort them out quickly so that fans can start plundering once again.
Luckily, the game mode’s delay has not stopped World of Warcraft’s new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops from being available right now. Players who watch four hours of any Twitch streamer in the World of Warcraft category before February 4 at 10 AM PST can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. The chosen content creator does not actually need to be playing Plunderstorm in order to make progress on the Drop, meaning fans are free to start earning this item while they wait for World of Warcraft to get the game mode up and running.
