Lost Atlases Mark Important Island Locations

A lost atlas floating when you approach it on an island in the Fallen Heights in Aloft.

With hundreds of islands floating in the sky when you make a world in Aloft, you’ll find plenty of different recipes and pieces of knowledge across several of them. There are things like knowledge stones to look out for, lost anchors that impart new sailing knowledge, and tons of recipes for your sketchbook. But if you’re looking for something big, you’ll want to use a lost atlas on your table map after you’ve found one.

These gray stones with a circular blue swirl pattern can be just about anywhere, but you’ll find them resting inside large circular gray rocks across all manner of islands. Sometimes they’ll be marked with one of the white stone gates you see scattered about the sky, but not always, so it’s best to keep your eyes out when you explore new islands in Aloft.

After grabbing a lost atlas on your long and winding travels, be sure to head to the table map next time you’re back on your home island. In the bottom right corner, you’ll see the option to use the lost atlas you found while you’re looking at your map of the sky. After you’ve held down the button to confirm your desire to use a lost atlas, the game will immediately mark a lost atlas symbol on your table map.

This is helpful if it’s in a sector you’ve been to already, but don’t worry – lost atlases mark locations even in sectors you haven’t visited yet. The sky in Aloft is massive, but the lost atlas symbol will be displayed on the map table as normal, even if the sector the island in question is in is still hidden by a wooden panel on your table map. When you visit that sector for the first time, you’ll be able to see the marked island in its archipelago as normal.

Using a lost atlas to mark the table map in Aloft.

While you’ll likely want to visit islands of all kinds to explore, find resources, discover new sketches, and more, sometimes, you just want to head right to the next major discovery, and there’s nothing wrong with that! A lost atlas will mark important islands that have things like corruption nodes you’ll need to handle, lost knowledge, and more.

Islands tracked by a lost atlas will be marked on your map with a swirl symbol, the very same one shown on the lost atlases themselves. As you unlock new sectors and explore different archipelagos within, keep an eye out for islands you’ve marked with a lost atlas.
