The Most Important Objects in the Series, Explained

Summary

  • The Power Pole has been Goku’s constant companion, serving as his weapon of choice throughout the Dragon Ball series.
  • Senzu Beans have miraculous healing powers, fully restoring energy and stamina, but are difficult to grow.
  • The Dragon Radar, Bulma’s invention, changed the way the quest for Dragon Balls was carried out, making them easy to find.

It is no secret that the Dragon Ball franchise is incredibly fixated on combat and the need for the main characters to get stronger. For years now, Goku, Vegeta, and most of the other central characters in the story have pushed themselves to the brink in order to get stronger than they have ever been before as a means of defeating each new villain who has come into the story.

However, despite the focus the series puts on the main characters, there have also been quite a few items/objects that have served incredibly pivotal roles, both in the story as well as in the character arcs of the heroes. In this article, let’s go over the most important of these fabled artifacts from across the Dragon Ball franchise and look at exactly why they have been so important in the grand scheme of things.

The Power Pole Has Been A Constant For Years

Goku’s Companion From The Start

First Appearance

Story Arc

Emperor Pilaf Saga

One of the most iconic weapons in the entire anime industry, Goku’s Power Pole has been a companion to the hero from the very start of the franchise. The staff was used by him throughout the run of the original series but was largely forgotten about for many years, specifically during the airing of Dragon Ball Z and Super. Despite this, however, the Power Pole made a comeback recently in Daima, serving as Goku’s weapon of choice once more while he is in his child form.

Oh, that’s no toothpick; that’s my Power Pole! Cool, huh?

This staff originally belonged to Korin but eventually found its way to Master Roshi, who then entrusted the Power Pole to Grandpa Gohan. After that, it was passed on to Goku to continue his journey. While this weapon is typically used as a regular staff, its true power comes with its unique ability to lengthen almost infinitely, allowing the user to change its size on a whim. Funnily enough, although the most common use of this item is seen in combat, its true purpose was to allow travel from Korin’s Towers to The Lookout using its size-changing ability.

Senzu Beans Have Miraculous Healing Powers

They Can Restore Someone To Top Fighting Shape

First Appearance

Dragon Ball, Episode 62, “Sacred Water”

Story Arc

Commander Red Saga

There are a few ways that a fighter can heal or recover in the world of Dragon Ball. However, no method comes close to the Senzu Beans in terms of effectiveness. These are magical beans that fully restore someone’s energy, stamina, and Ki reserves upon consumption of a single one, and are so potent that it was originally stated that a single Senzu Bean can keep someone full for 10 days straight.

A Senzu Bean will fix you right up!

However, as essential as they are to the overall story, they’re incredibly difficult to grow. The only person in the series capable of growing them is Korin, who does so in his tower but states that a single bean takes very long to become ripe enough for consumption. However, he tends to help out the Z-Fighters by almost always supplying them with a bag of these magical items, which has been shown throughout the entire Dragon Ball franchise.

Dragon Ball: How Daima Has Seriously Picked Up The Pace

Despite a fairly slow start, the recent episodes of Dragon Ball Daima have really picked up the pace, making it a must watch for fans!

Bulma’s Greatest Invention

First Appearance

Dragon Ball, Episode 1, “The Secret of the Dragon Ball”

Story Arc

Emperor Pilaf Saga

Arguably the greatest invention of the most underrated member of the Z-Fighters, the Dragon Radar was created by Bulma and was the sole reason why the quest for the Dragon Balls was changed forevermore. These wish-granting orbs were the subject of legend, created solely to grant the desires of any who collected all seven of them, although this was always a monumental task for anyone to undertake, often taking several years to accomplish.

The Dragon Radar is our only hope to summon the Dragon!

However, Bulma’s invention changed everything, since this radar was able to pick up readings of the Dragon Balls from wherever they were, making them incredibly easy to find. Due to this, the Dragon Balls eventually became an afterthought to collect, since the heroes made very little effort to claim them due to how easy the task was made because of this miraculous radar.

The Dragon Balls Are The Central Theme Of The Series

The Reason The Franchise Exists At All

First Appearance

Dragon Ball, Episode 1, “The Secret of the Dragon Balls”

Story Arc

Emperor Pilaf Saga

The entire reason this franchise exists at all is, unsurprisingly, because of the Dragon Balls themselves. Although the narrative impact of these mystical orbs has decreased in some of the more recent additions to the franchise, they are the sole reason why Goku’s journey started in the first place and have always played an incredibly important role in every single arc of the franchise, whether they are the main focus point of the arc or not.

The Dragon Balls were intended to be a thing of extraordinary magic and power, something to be revered, not for the ease of their method, but for the dream of never having to use them.

Although it’s true they aren’t as much of a focal point behind story arcs as they were back in the original series, they have seen a lot of importance lately, specifically when it comes to Daima. There have also been many different kinds of Dragon Balls which often differ in power, with Daima focusing on the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm. By granting almost any wish that the user desires, they remain the most important object/items in the entire franchise.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
