The Mandalorian and Grogu Plot Leak and Villain Rumor Drop

Summary

  • Rumored leaked plot details for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu involve a familiar storyline from The Clone Wars.
  • The main plot is expected to revolve around a mission to save Rotta the Hutt.
  • Fans are upset about the repetitive story but the film is still likely to connect to a throughline in the “MandoVerse” shows.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu plot details have allegedly leaked. While the leak teases a familiar villain’s return, fans are upset that the rumored plot is repeating a story from the animated Clone Wars movie.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is the next Star Wars movie on Disney’s release calendar. As part of the many projects that will lead into Dave Filoni’s new Star Wars movie (which has been billed as the culmination of the stories told in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew), The Mandalorian and Grogu plot was expected by some involve Imperial loyalists’ efforts to restore the Galactic Empire. That could still be correct, but two reports claim The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s main plot will echo events from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated feature film.

Jake Lloyd, The Phantom Menace’s young Anakin Skywalker, shares a positive mental health update after years of challenges and treatment.

Kristian Harloff reports that The Mandalorian and Grogu villain will be the bounty hunter Embo, who appeared in multiple Star Wars: The Clone Wars series episodes. Filoni voiced Embo in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and will reportedly return to do the same in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Harloff also believes the plot involves Din Djarin and Grogu being hired to rescue Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta the Hutt while Embo has been hired to kill Rotta.

Bespin Bulletin backed Harloff’s reporting, noting that they heard the same plot details. The online publication added that they believe Embo is hired by Hutts, potentially the two who appeared in The Book of Boba Fett. However, Bespin Bulletin heard conflicting information about who hired Din Djarin. They were once told Din Djarin was hired by the Hutts but were later told it was the Republic. With Zeb reportedly assisting Din Djarin on his mission, Bespin Bulletin notes perhaps this leads to Din Djrarin being hired by the Republic but admits this is purely speculative.

The Mandalorian and Grogu rumors haven’t been received well by most fans. Most are upset that this storyline is similar to the plot of the Clone Wars movie, in which a baby Rotta the Hutt (Jabba the Hutt’s son) is kidnapped as part of a sinister plot orchestrated by Count Dooku and Jabba’s uncle Ziro to frame the Jedi for the kidnapping and incite a conflict between Jabba and the Republic. On Twitter, a fan expressed hope that the rumored Mandalorian and Grogu story was merely a side plot, prompting Bespin Bulletin to confirm it was not.

The Mandalorian and Grogu cast includes Jonny Coyne as a member of the Shadow Council, a group of Imperial warlords dedicated to undermining the new Republic and seemingly interested in installing Thrawn as the heir to the Galactic Empire. So, it is still possible that The Mandalorian and Grogu will connect to the seemingly ongoing Thrawn storyline, which appears to be the main throughline between the “MandoVerse” shows. However, if these rumors are correct, fans need to be convinced that another Rotta rescue adventure is a story worth telling.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.
