Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist Volume 21
The Four Battle City Finalists Share The Spotlight For This Cover
The Battle City arc is arguably the most intense and memorable arc of Duel Monsters. While Kaiba’s grand tournament would attract hundreds of Duelists from around the world to participate, the final four contenders would end up being Yugi, Joey, Marik, and Kaiba himself, who would reach the finals with the hope of getting his hands on more Egyptian God cards. Volume 21’s cover is an epic illustration of the final four, referencing the four-way battle they have near the end of that arc.
While all the finalists get a chance to shine here, Joey is the one who takes center stage, popping out of the page with a set of cards in his hand, ready to take on the evil Marik, which would be Joey’s biggest test as a duelist up to that point. This cover also features a very satisfying medley of colors, with the intense red of Yugi’s panel contrasting with the light blues and blacks of everyone else.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist Volume 20
Clever Usage Of Scale And Distance Make This An Experimental Cover That Kicks Off Battle City
The cover of volume 20 provides readers with an epic illustration of the Duel Tower and the four key players who partake in the tournament. There’s a creative use of distance and size with this image, as while Kaiba can be seen approaching the tower, eager to get stuck in, Joey and Atem are much further away, while Marik can be seen occupying the skies, looking down at his competition with disgust and second-hand embarrassment.
Considering how intense Battle City is for all of its duelists, especially the four who make it all the way to the end, this cover perfectly emphasizes just how scary the entire experience really can be by having the intimidating Duel Tower loom in the background.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World Volume 6
The Beginning Of The End Of Atem’s Journey With The Gang
Considering that Atem, the ancient pharaoh who resides within Yugi, is a key member of the main gang for the entire series, it’s therefore an emotional moment when he decides that it’s time to return to his time, leaving Yugi and his pals behind for good. These feelings are perfectly replicated on the cover of Millennium World volume 6, which sees Atem parting ways in the background with his eyes closed while Yugi and his pals slide down a sandy dune with desperate looks on their faces.
It’s an extremely creative cover that manages to easily fit everyone onto the page thanks to the clever size adjustments with Atem towering over the background while Yugi, Joey, Tristan, and Tea are floating around near the center. Pairing an ultra-detailed Atem with smaller versions of the cast results in a quirky and experimental cover that really stands out.

Volume 24 Emphasizes The Intensity Of A Duel With Vibrant Colors And Terrifying Monsters
Even though it’s common knowledge that Yugi and Atem essentially occupy the same body, it’s rare to see both of them featured on the same cover at once. However, to show just how formidable of a duelist Marik truly is, Volume 24’s cover decides to show both Yugi and Atem struggling mid-battle as they try to overcome the evil trickster, who can be seen laughing maniacly in the background while the Winged Demon Dragon of Ra screams along with him, making for a pretty terrifying visual.

A Final Look At Atem And His Jawdropping Design Before He Leaves The Story
The cover to the final volume of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! story shows a stern-looking Atem as he walks out from the light and into plain view, referencing the fact that he would eventually leave Yugi for good by the end of this volume. While it’s therefore an emotional cover that forces readers to reflect on all the time they’ve spent with Atem throughout the journey, it also showcases the Pharaoh’s iconic design, which has become synonymous with the series.
The long flowing jacket, bulky wristbands, and of course, the golden and black hair all come together to create a character who manages to look stylish, intimidating, and badass, all at the same time. As a heartfelt sendoff to the original series, Takahashi decided to give Atem the full spotlight here to provide readers with one final look before he inevitably decides to leave for good.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist Volume 6
This Cover Contains Major Members Of The Cast, While Also Being Packed Full Of Small Details

The circular design of this cover, which is made possible by the creative use of Blue Eyes, gives this image a unique look that is extremely vibrant and a real show of creativity.
