Smite 2 was revealed a year ago, promising a sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, built using Unreal Engine 5. Smite 2 introduces an improved experience compared to its predecessor, refining visuals and combat mechanics. It also includes a revamped item shop that allows players to get different items regardless of their chosen god’s classification. Now, after a closed alpha phase, the game is available to everybody.

Smite 2 Gets New Update

Developer Hi-Rez Studios rolls out a new patch across all platforms that address issues found in the third-person action MOBA Smite 2.

Starting January 14, Smite 2‘s open beta became available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck, where players can download the game for free. The new update also brings fresh content for players, including Aladdin, a god developed specifically for Smite 2. Aladdin can run along walls and even revive after death thanks to the ability of his companion, which grants him three wishes. Staying true to his legendary origin, Aladdin’s ultimate allows him to use his lamp to capture enemies and force them into a 1v1 fight.

Smite 2’s Free-to-Play Open Beta Introduces New Content

  • An alpha version of the Assault game mode

The rest of the gods added to the Smite 2 roster are Geb, the Egyptian God of Earth; Mulan, the Chinese Ascendant Warrior; Agni, from the Hindu Pantheon; and Ullr, from the Norse Pantheon. In addition to gods, Smite 2 is bringing back a popular game mode from the original Smite called Joust, where players face each other on a smaller 3v3 map. The Conquest map and the Assault game mode will also be available in the open beta.

Titan Forge Games’ creative director said Smite 2 is objectively better than Smite in many ways. The developer thanked the player base for all the feedback received to help improve Smite 2 during its closed alpha period and promised “ambitious content” coming for the game in 2025.

Even though the game is available on almost every major platform, Nintendo Switch users won’t be able to play Smite 2. The developer explained a while ago that it was concerned about the console’s ability to run the game smoothly. However, Titan Forge Games has expressed openness to the possibility of bringing the game to the Switch 2. Nevertheless, Smite fans can already download and enjoy this sequel’s open beta.
