Console players are finally getting the chance to play skate., the highly anticipated new entry in the popular Skate franchise, thanks to a new round of playtesting. While such tests have been ongoing for skate. since mid-2022, they’ve been limited to just its PC version, with Xbox and PlayStation players now able to get a taste of the first Skate game since about 15 years.
The last game to release for the Skate franchise was Skate 3 in 2010. Despite having a stalwart fanbase, the franchise was seemingly indefinitely shelved by EA in favor of more FPS, Battle Royale, and live-service titles. Support for a new Skate title remained throughout the years, however, with #Skate4 becoming a hashtag that even EA couldn’t continue to ignore, culminating in the announcement of a dedicated development studio to make a new game in the series. Last Fall, it was announced skate. would go into early access in 2025, with console testing certainly a positive development towards that window.

Announced via skate.‘s official Twitter account, Xbox and PlayStation console players should now be able to playtest skate., albeit through the developer’s skate. A version of skate.‘s map leaked online in 2023, although it stands to reason it could have vastly changed in the time since. Fans of the series can either register for the playtest, or hold out longer until skate. becomes more easily accessible.

While slated to enter early access in 2025, gamers know all too well that an in-development title may get delayed past initial window announcements, as has become somewhat commonplace in the industry. In the meantime, fans of the genre have a handful of other games to play before the new Skate title fully releases.
