Riot Games has announced the introduction of Twitch subscriptions for selected LoL Esports broadcast channels. This is what you need to know.
Fans can support their favorite LoL leagues through Twitch subscriptions
Starting this year, LoL Esports fans will be able to support their favorite leagues, teams, or players through Twitch subs. The subscriptions will allow fans to get access to an enhanced viewing experience and special perks and rewards. The subscriptions, in return, will be an extra support to the operational and content costs of the leagues, ensuring their sustainability and growth.
Twitch subs to the leagues will be available immediately from Split 1. The starting date for each broadcast channel will be as follows:
- LCK Global – January 15
- LTA North – January 18
- LTA South – January 18
- LTA Español – January 18
- LEC – January 18
- LCP EN – January 17
- LCP TW – January 17
- LCP JP – live
- Riot Games – soon
LoL Esports Twitch Subscription Perks
The benefits of subscribing to LoL Esports Twitch channels include:
- Ad-free Viewing
- Region-Exclusive Twitch Chat Emotes
- Twitch Channel Badges
- Channel Points
- Subscriber-Only Chat
Additional Perks for Paid and Gifted Subs
For Split 1, subscribers with paid and gifted Tier 1 subscriptions will unlock exclusive in-game rewards through Twitch’s Drop Fest. Subscribers will be able to earn the special “Why Though?” emote by subscribing to participating channels. Additional in-game rewards will be provided in future splits, according to Riot.
How It Works
The subscription program will work similarly to how Twitch subs work for content creators. The LoL Esports Twitch channels will give you access to exclusive content, emotes, and other rewards. The steps to get the in-game rewards are as follows:
- Connect your Twitch and Riot accounts.
- Subscribe to a participating channel.
- Claim the reward from your Twitch inventory.
Please note that Prime subscriptions are not eligible for this reward.
Supporting the LoL Esports Ecosystem
The introduction of Twitch subscriptions has the main goal of providing new revenue streams for teams and leagues, allocating a portion of the proceeds to the Global Revenue Pool, which comprises the revenues from digital sales within the LoL Esports ecosystem.
