Summary
- Expect no news on Switch 2 Pokemon titles at the next Pokemon Presents on Feb 27.
- Leaks suggest a Switch 2 reveal soon, but Pokemon games will apparently stick to the original console for now.
- The next Pokemon Presents will likely focus on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
Pokemon fans hoping for announcements about Switch 2 Pokemon titles may be disappointed by the upcoming Pokemon Presents that’s expected to take place on Thursday, February 27. Pokemon has had a consistent presence on Nintendo hardware since the first set of games released for the original Game Boy in the 90s, but fans may have to wait longer than expected for the beloved franchise to have a presence on the Switch 2.
Nintendo has not officially revealed the Switch 2 at the time of this writing. The company has confirmed that the next-generation console is real, it will be backward compatible with the original Switch, it will carry over Nintendo accounts from the previous console, and it will be revealed within this fiscal year, but otherwise, everything we know about it comes from leaks. The leaks, meanwhile, have painted the picture of what is essentially a souped-up, larger version of the original Switch.

Pokemon GO Event Adding Long-Requested Feature for a Limited Time
Niantic announces a long-requested feature will be added to Pokemon GO, although it will only be available for a limited time.
New Pokemon games will inevitably come to the Switch 2, but franchise fans hoping for some news on that front during the next Pokemon Presents on February 27 should keep their expectations in check. Jeff Grubb has heard that the Pokemon Presents will feature Pokemon games in development for the original Switch, not the Switch 2, though all those titles will work on the new hardware thanks to its backward compatibility.
Pokemon Presents Not Expected to Have News on Switch 2 Games
The next Pokemon Presents will undoubtedly feature updates on the various ongoing live-service Pokemon games, like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. Fans are also expecting news on Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is expected to release for the original Switch at some point this year. All that’s been shown of Pokemon Legends: Z-A so far is a brief teaser trailer that confirmed the Lumiose City setting, some returning Pokemon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, but little else. Rumor has it that there may be another main series Pokemon game coming this year, however.
It’s been teased that a new main series Pokemon game will be released this year that isn’t Pokemon Legends: Z-A or the Generation 10 games. Speculation points to Pokemon Black and White remakes or another pair of Let’s Go games, which will apparently be released for the original Switch and not the Switch 2, assuming all this leaked information is correct. If that’s the case, it seems highly likely that the first major Pokemon games released exclusively for the Switch 2 will be the eventual Generation 10 games.
The Pokemon franchise has a long history of sticking to older hardware with greater install bases. As some may recall, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were released for the original DS instead of the 3DS back in the day, and so it seems history may repeat itself. Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed at this time, so fans will just have to tune in to the Pokemon Presents on February 27 to be sure.
