Rumiko Takahashi, creator of Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, and many other series, has just recommended a manga by Ryuhei Tamura (creator of Beelzebub). The legendary mangaka joins other famous authors like Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), Tite Kubo (Bleach) and Kazuhiro Fujita (Ushio to Tora) who had already told readers to check this manga out.

A recommendation can have a good impact on a series’ popularity. Given Rumiko Takahashi is highly respect, it’s likely some fans will check this one out. For example, recently, Frieren recommended a manga and, shortly after, a reprint was announced.

With so many of Rumiko Takahashi’s series getting reboots, which could be next?

Anyway, Takahashi said readers should check Cosmos out. Her message is featured in the obi of the fifth volume — an obi is attached to the manga cover. Previous volumes featured comments from Arakawa, Kubo and Fujita. Takahashi might also soon drop a message on social media regarding the series when the volume drops on January 17, 2025.

Rumiko’s Message About Cosmos

According to Comic Natalie, the message featured in the obi is as follows:

This is a story about daily life in a surreal world. It’s real, cool, and interesting at the same time.

Tamura himself dropped a few illustrations celebrating the upcoming volume:

What is Cosmos’ Premise?

Cosmos is the latest work by Ryuhei Tamura, and is running in Sunday Gene-X, a monthly magazine, since 2023. So far, the chapters have been compiled into 5 volumes. It is not published in the US yet, but VIZ Media has announced the license acquisition, and the first volume should be out this year.

The story is set in COSMOS, an insurance company specializing in aliens. It follows Kaede Mizumori, a high school boy who one day meets the mysterious Rin Homura.

As the manga is still in its fifth volume, it might be nominated for the Taisho Award, one of the most renowned manga awards in Japan.

While Tamura is most known for Beelzebub (don’t mistake this one for Miss Beelzebub) other series he wrote include Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin, Hungry Marie and Pyramid no Himitsu.

Cosmos is licensed in the US by VIZ Media, and the first volume should be released this year.
