Bosch: Legacy is on its way back to television screens in March 2025, but the third season will also be the final solo Harry Bosch story, after Amazon abruptly canceled it. The ex-LAPD detective turned private investigator will make three guest appearances in the Ballard spin-off, but the initial plan was to run both shows at the same time. The fans’ biggest issue with Amazon is all the lies they’ve told about the decision to end Bosch: Legacy. If the plans were made clearer from the start, there would be no need for the fans to question the official narrative.
Amazon’s statement to announce the end of Bosch: Legacy claimed it was all part of the plan, but the creative team weren’t told that the third season was going to be the last one until they’d finished filming. Amazon also tried to put a PR spin on it by claiming there was more to come in addition to the Ballard spin-off. Weeks later, they axed the Jerry Edgar solo show, which proved they were lying about the expansion of Michael Connelly’s universe.

The problem Amazon had with ending Bosch: Legacy was that it was a ratings hit, which was growing in popularity. If they came out and admitted they were canceling it, it would raise a lot of eyebrows. Amazon created this bogus story that Bosch: Legacy‘s ending was a planned handover to the Ballard spin-off. Unfortunately for them, Titus Welliver’s pre-cancelation comments contradicted this, and it was clear to the fans that the end of Bosch: Legacy wasn’t a creative decision. Welliver and the rest of the cast were originally expecting to begin filming the fourth season this month, but Amazon dropped the bombshell back in September 2024 that the upcoming season that will premiere this March would be the last one.
Canceling a show is one thing, but lying to the fans is something completely different. Let’s not forget, it’s these fans who pay their hard-earned money to watch shows like Bosch: Legacy on Amazon’s streaming service. Lying to the fans about why they can’t have more of their favorite show is arguably breaking that contract. The trust between Amazon and the fans is gone. If they are doing this with one of their longest running shows, (Bosch and Bosch: Legacy collectively), what are they doing with all the other shows and fans out there?

The Save Bosch: Legacy Petition Is Also About Exposing Amazon’s Lies And Saving Hollywood
Save Bosch: Legacy isn’t the first fan petition launched to save a popular show, and it won’t be the last. Ironically, fans have already had to step in to save the Bosch-verse once before, with just over 10,000 signatures persuading Amazon to continue Harry Bosch’s solo stories beyond the original Bosch series. The Save Bosch: Legacy petition has over 20,000 signatures, but Amazon still aren’t budging. This petition has a lot more riding on it than any other campaign before it. This is about exposing Amazon’s cover-up, and paving the way for a future of television that isn’t dictated by some bogus advertising strategy. The only thing fans want to be sold on is the next great story, and unfortunately, Hollywood doesn’t possess them in droves at the moment. Michael Connelly’s Bosch-verse is one of the few exceptions, but its being cut down before its time.
Hollywood has adapted the universe building model for its television IP’s, and it has led to over-saturation in many cases. However, the expansion of the Bosch-verse was one that actually deserved this treatment, and Amazon are killing it. Fans want the next golden generation of television, but Amazon is more focused on treating their television shows and movies like a product they are selling via a next day delivery service. The adverts on their streaming service interrupt the magic of the story, but that’s what they want. They care less and less about the quality of the actual content, and more about the ‘sell’. Adverts wouldn’t be needed on Amazon’s streaming service if they produced better overall content. If fans hadn’t tasted such riches, they could probably live with being poor, but Bosch: Legacy‘s core audience remember the likes of The Sopranos and Breaking Bad. Where is the next great show coming from?
