There are still few details known about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday, but a huge cast is one thing that can be guaranteed.
Audiences anticipate Avengers films because they involve many of the biggest superheroes crossing over and joining forces to fight off a major threat. Whether it’s Ultron, Loki, Thanos, or someone else, these movies often require a huge cast. Marvel Is Stacking The Cast For Avengers: Doomsday
The official cast for Avengers: Doomsday is currently unknown, and that’s likely going to remain the case until much closer to the project commencing filming as more details become official and trailers are unveiled. However, there have been a lot of reports about different actors appearing in the movie, which has made people excited and nervous in equal measure. Disney has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU, this time to play Dr. Doom, and that’s a monumental news story by itself. However, his appearance also means that the Fantastic Four are set to appear, which throws a bunch of new characters into the mix.
Chris Evans is also rumored to be returning to the franchise, this time playing the character of Nomad, but the current lineup for the Avengers is unclear because every single hero was involved in Avengers: Endgame due to the threat level. However, certain core characters like Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man will all be expected. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to reprise his role of Dr. Strange, while Daredevil is also rumored to have a small role in this one to showcase how many characters will be involved.
New reports have also claimed that Gambit, Deadpool, and Wolverine are all going to appear in Avengers: Doomsday too. It showcases that Marvel is rolling all the dice for this one to get people talking, and those three characters being part of the project will lead to a lot of X-Men speculation, which could potentially open the door for a whole host of others to appear. While that will create tons of possibilities and make the movie easy to market, it could make it tricky to actually create an engaging story.
Certain Characters Could Be Lost In The Shuffle
It is always challenging to give every character the right amount of screen time in an Avengers project due to the number of people involved in it. However, given how many characters appear to be involved in this particular movie, that could be taken to the extreme. All of Marvel’s heroes didn’t appear until the end fight scene in Avengers: Endgame. Therefore, it didn’t matter that not every character was given a chance to shine. However, it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios will repeat that type of scene because there is no built-up villain such as Thanos that would require it for this movie.
That could lead to a lot of characters being lost in the shuffle as the story goes on. There will be some in core roles that are always going to be given more screen time, but there’s a chance that some will end up not feeling important at all. That is fine for a one-off, but it can negatively impact how audiences view that particular character coming away from it. Marvel needs to ensure all of its heroes are treated equally so that people will still care about them when they appear in smaller movies or television shows. But if they’re only shown as secondary characters when it comes to the most important films of all, then that is going to be a problem.
Avengers: Doomsday Could Become Oversaturated
Having tons of characters with different powers and personalities will provide a lot of opportunities for the writers to take things in multiple directions. This will impact the potential fight scenes and the general plot, as there could be character connections that have never been seen on the big screen before. However, the movie risks becoming oversaturated as too much of a good thing can become problematic. Marvel might struggle to balance the need to showcase all of the characters rather than focusing on the story itself and the emotion behind all of the decisions made.
There’s tons of excitement surrounding Avengers: Doomsday, and adding all of these characters creates a great canvas for people to work with to make it a success. Audiences will get to speculate about potential dream fights or moments between characters they want to see, and many of them will be brought to life. However, the risks might outweigh the possible rewards with Avengers: Doomsday because if the entire movie becomes oversaturated, it isn’t going to connect, and that’s problematic when this is expected to build up to the next Avengers film the following year.
