- Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.
Assassin’s Creed players who found themselves unable to use the games following a Windows update will be pleased to know that a fix has been issued. A pair of patches have been released for two Assassin’s Creed games to fix the problem, but there may be some Ubisoft games with lingering problems.
Windows regularly receives updates, and 24H2 for Windows 11 introduced a number of new and improved functions, like Wi-Fi 7 support, improved energy saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC features. However, after the launch of this update, some gamers started experiencing issues preventing some games from starting or behaving correctly, including entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This new fix should amend the issue for two of Ubisoft’s games.

Ubisoft has revealed that Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla have both received title updates that should fix the problems Assassin’s Creed had following Windows 11 update 24H2. Players should be able to receive the updates automatically through Steam, after which the games should boot up correctly. Users will need to ensure they have some storage space in advance, as the Windows 24H2-fixing Assassin’s Creed Origins patch will take up 230 MB of space and Valhalla will take 500 MB.
Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games
It’s not entirely clear what in this particular Windows update caused some Ubisoft games to stop functioning properly. While gamers are grateful that these two titles have been restored, there have still been some complaints, as some remaining games haven’t been patched to fix the issues yet. This includes Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which, like its counterparts, can either become unresponsive or fails to function at all. Previous hotfixes from Ubisoft have reportedly fixed the worst of the problems with Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but there may be some remaining performance issues to be ironed out. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey fans who have been waiting to update Windows may want to consider holding off for a while longer until a fix is released for that game.
While this problem is now being amended, it’s unfortunate that it transpired in the first place. Players began reporting issues with various games when the Windows 24H2 update preview launched five months prior, but it would seem the issue wasn’t fixed prior to the update officially being rolled out. The development is especially problematic, since Microsoft has been urging Windows 10 users to upgrade to 11 ASAP. Thankfully, most games don’t seem to have had any major issues develop following the update.
