Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake Is Reportedly More Than Just Graphics

Summary

  • The reported Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake is allegedly more than just a graphics overhaul.
  • That’s according to an unnamed Ubisoft employee’s LinkedIn profile, which claims that new combat and wildlife systems are being developed.

According to an unnamed Ubisoft game designer’s LinkedIn profile, the reported Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake is being developed on the upgraded Anvil Engine, and will be more than just a graphics overhaul.

As reported by MP1st, it will allegedly feature new systems concerning combat and wildlife, although what exactly that means is unclear right now. The team reportedly hopes that these changes, whatever they might be, will make the original an “outstanding game to rebirth as the next-gen triple-A game”.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Is Gaming’s Latest Waste Of Time

Ubisoft is rumoured to be remaking Black Flag as a follow up to Skull & Bones, but it’s a boring step backwards.

The LinkedIn profile, combined with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot saying that “players can be excited about some remakes”, including “older Assassin’s Creed games”, all but confirms that a Black Flag remake is underway. But details are incredibly scarce as it hasn’t been officially announced yet. In all likelihood, we won’t hear more until Shadows releases, which was just delayed for a second time.

When Can We Expect The Black Flag Remake?

Insider Tom Henderson claimed at the end of last year that the Black Flag remake was “well into development” and targeting a November 2025 release date, but he also said that Shadows’ first delay had shaken up Ubisoft’s roadmap.

Henderson likewise claimed that it was being developed on the upgraded Anvil engine.

Given that Shadows was delayed again only six days ago, it’s unclear how far the Black Flag remake might have been pushed back. 2026 seems a safe bet now, but that’s entirely speculative — we’ll just have to wait and see.

Shadows is now planning to launch on March 20, so perhaps we’ll find out more about the alleged Black Flag remake soon after. However, with expansions already in the works, the spotlight will likely remain on Yasuke and Naoe for a while yet.
