There are seven resources in Hyper Light Breaker, and players who want to obtain gear, unlock permanent upgrades, improve their survivability, and expand their roster of characters will need to collect all of them. The way that the various resources are obtained may not be immediately obvious, though, and fans may even be confused about what to do with resources once they have been earned. This guide is here to alleviate that confusion, and it will give players a solid understanding of the seven resources in Hyper Light Breaker.
Resources are stored under the items tab in the inventory menu, allowing players to always check the resources that they have in their possession.

Hyper Light Breaker Dev Talks Gear Design
In a recent interview with Game Rant, Hyper Light Breaker developer Heart Machine details how the team developed gear for player builds.
How to Get & Use Bright Blood in Hyper Light Breaker
Bright Blood is the most common resource in Hyper Light Breaker, and players can earn it by defeating enemies, breaking destructible objects, and opening crates in the Overgrowth. Fans can also sell gear to vendors in the Hub for additional Bright Blood.
Players can use their Bright Blood to perform the following actions:
- Loot Blades and Rails from bodies in the Overgrowth.
- Open Stashes and other crates in the Overgrowth.
- Purchase new gear in Hyper Light Breaker from vendors in the Overgrowth and Hub.
- Upgrade gear at vendors in the Hub.
How to Get & Use Gold Ration in Hyper Light Breaker
Gold Rations in Hyper Light Breaker are earned by completing Cycles. In the early stages of the game, players should expect to complete their Cycles by dying four times and using up all their Rezes. Once all four Rezes have been spent, fans will find an NPC at the Telepad in the Hub, and they should give that character the requested materials to reset the Overgrowth and make some progress toward earning Gold Rations.
Gold Rations play an important role in the meta-progression system. More specifically, fans can use the resource to unlock permanent upgrades via Pherus Bit in the Hub. Additionally, Gold Rations can be given to the Hub’s vendors to gain access to new services.
How to Get & Use Abyss Stone in Hyper Light Breaker
Abyss Stones are earned by defeating Crowns, difficult bosses that are found through gates in the Overgrowth. Notably, players must collect Prism before they can battle Crowns in Hyper Light Breaker, and the locations of those items are marked with yellow diamonds on the in-game map.
As is the case with Gold Rations, Abyss Stones are a meta-progression resource, and players can use them to upgrade the stats of their Sycoms and unlock new characters in Hyper Light Breaker. These actions are performed during loadout confirmation, which occurs just before entering the Overgrowth, and they are good ways to get advantages in future outings.
How to Get & Use Key in Hyper Light Breaker
Players can occassionally obtain Keys by opening small containers in the Overgrowth. Notably, those caches are not typically marked on the in-game map, making it a bit difficult to consistently find this resource.
Keys are used to bypass barriers in the Overgrowth that frequently prevent access to Stashes and other lootable containers. They can also be used to enter Labs, subterranean areas that contain enemies to defeat and items to collect.
How to Get & Use MediGem in Hyper Light Breaker
MediGems are an extremely important resource, and players can earn them by interacting with small glowing flowers in the Overgrowth. With respect to exactly why MediGems are so important, they are exchanged for Medkits when deploying from the Hub’s Telepad and when visiting Shrines in the Overgrowth.
Players must expand their Medkit capacity to one before they can use their MediGems. To perform this expansion, fans should visit Pherus Bit in the Hub and use one Gold Ration to unlock the Medkit Capacity node.
How to Get & Use Core in Hyper Light Breaker
Cores are yet another meta-progression resource in Hyper Light Breaker, and they can occasionally be found in the Overgrowth’s Stashes, which are marked with chest icons on the in-game map. Fans can also obtain Cores by combining four Core Shards. Those shards are earned by defeating the enemies that award Prisms, which are marked with yellow diamonds on the in-game map, and from unmarked lootable objects, like bone piles, that fans may encounter while exploring the Overgrowth.
Cores can be used to upgrade a player’s Sycom. This upgrading is performed during loadout confirmation, just before visiting Hyper Light Breaker‘s Overgrowth, and it makes it possible for players to improve the stats of their Breakers.
How to Get & Use Material in Hyper Light Breaker
Materials are primarily earned by using Bright Blood to open small chests in the Overgrowth, and those chests are frequently marked with gems on the in-game map. Players can also pick up some additional Materials by selling gear to vendors in Hyper Light Breaker‘s Hub.
Players can use this resource to purchase gear from the vendors that appear in the Hub and in the Overgrowth. This means that Material is similar to Bright Blood, though its uses are more limited.
